Please excuse me for going off the subject slightly, I keep geting these electric shock like pains in my right leg which are almost as bad as the shock pains on left side of face. They only last for few seconds but when they come on I am unable to weightbear on that side. They feel exactly like the pain I get from my TN. I have mentioned this to doc but he just checked pulses in foot and dismissed pain in leg to concentrate on facial pain. Was just wondering if any one else gets these symptoms, dont think medication related as have had leg problem longer than diagnosed TN.
Ann, I found your post very interesting, because it really goes along with my differing views of the cause of TN. I had the same kind of nerve pain in my left index finger months before I had the pain in my jaw. My Neurologist said he had never heard of that and it was not related to my TN, even though you often read that description(about the left index finger pain) in the descriptions of TN. I believe, and this is my opinion (and the medical doctor that treated me), TN pain is cause by a compressed nerve in the neck. Very similar to the pain my husband felt in his foot and toe when he had a pinched nerve in his lower back. Just like I felt numbness in my chin, he had numbness in his toe. It is just much more severe when it is referred along the Trigeminal nerve. But this is why I had success with neck exercises. I know it sounds too easy to work with something so horrible as TN pain. But as I did the exercises and pushed the bulging disc back into place, the pressure was taken off of the nerve and Voila! no more pain! I've had other things go on that makes TN part of a much bigger picture for me. I think whatever is happening didn't just happen in my neck but affected other parts of my spine and other joints as well. I was wondering if you have any other symptoms other than just TN pain? Where is you TN pain? I hope you don't mind the questions, I feel the way we learn the most is from each other.
TN pain in left temple, around left eye and scalp. Today also have burning pain left side upper lip and left side of chin, numbness in both jaws, and stabbing pain right ear. Several years ago was diagnosed with scoliosis T4 and T5 with compressed disc L5 and S1. Intermitant sciatic pain over the years but nothing as severe as this and duration a lot shorter than normal sciatic pain.
Hope this helps with your research.
Ann

Hello, Yes you might try to have your blood sugar checked. Everyone (my sisters,sis-inlaw,mother in laws(all of them are RNs) and my brothers says that's normally the sign of Diabetic person. That's why some of them take Gabapentin too.
Had all the diabetic checks done and blood sugar levels all normal, check BM reading regularly. I too am a RN and work as Nurse Practitioner in Emergency Care and have discussed with colleagues who don't seem to think it's related but I just think it is very odd that I now seem to be getting these symptoms as well. Another strange thing is when I saw Neuro he checked for neuro deficits and didn't find any but on occasions I seem to lose some power in hands e.g. unable to open bottles and jars etc, but other days no problem with this. The whole thing just seems very strange. I am grateful for all suggestions however and please keep them coming.
