Thanks so much for sharing your story. It is so wonderful that your doctor was able to find the problem and help you particularly when your MRI did not reflect the problem. Best wishes for a continued recovery. Marcy

awesome ! i m sooooo happy for you !!
I have my operative report as well and As I spend time studying and discerning it I am getting a better handle at the issues I struggled with post operatively. I had significant vestibular issues to the point of being in the hospital a week after my mvd. I also had several days in inpatient pysiotherapy and an application made for outpatient therapy. The reports states " the anterior inferior cerebellar artery had an unusual loop coming superior to the eighth nerve and adherent to the dura, such that care was required to prevent overstretching or tearing these aica branches as the cerebellum fell back." The eighth nerve is responsible for equilibrium and balance. You think this would have been mentioned to me when I expressed concern at how unbalanced and dizzy I was. I had to relearn stairs because of this issue! No big deal for them but I would suggest a greater amount of time post operatively to discuss concerns for patients. Our medical system, is wonderful but I think it could be improved upon in this way.
This type of result is the stuff that keeps me going, thank you for sharing.
Hi Feiku,
thanks for your comment, I’m now 9 months post MVD, and still have no regrets.
my surgery was successful for my med resistant TN. after MVD, I experienced 4 blessed months pain free ( still on 1200mg Tegretol but off 2/3meds).
By month 5 my pain increased and my meds did too.
BUT, at least now I get the odd good day, sometimes a few days in a row!!
pre-MVD the pain was 24/7 and meds didn’t touch it at all, it was hell.
I’m currently on 1200mg Tegretol XR and 270mg Dilantin. I have an rx for Keppra just in case things worsen…but I’m holding off as the side effects of the two meds are enough and adding the 3rd med will intensify those. My neuro is very supportive and agrees that if I can hold off my quality of day to day life will be better but if I can’t do it, I’m to start the Keppra ASAP.
so, I can’t work, I can’t drive but life is better than it was…not the outcome I hoped for, but I knew going in for MVD that there were no guarantees and I did get relief .
others might see this as a failed MVD, BUT I sure don’t!!
it helped to minimize my pain somewhat and any relief is better than no relief!
(( hugs )) Mimi
i m glad things are better for you !!!
