Neurosurgeon visit , interesting results

Hi all
This week I traveled to NY for a consult with Dr. Jeffrey Brown to discuss my possible surgical options. While there, I had a high resolution MRI to help visualize the trigeminal nerves. For the past few weeks I have been having TN type pain on my “good” side too, and the MRI showed that I have compression of the trigeminal nerve on both the right and left. Since the compression is caused by a vein on both sides, I was diagnosed with bilateral venous compression TN2. Quite a mouth full!! Fortunately , I am a candidate for MVD. The procedure is slightly different, as the compression is caused by a vein, not an artery, but the results, when successful are virtually the same. I will have the procedure on the right ( more painful ) side first, and then possibly have the left side done in a few months.
My experience so far with Dr. Brown and his staff has been wonderful. I have been corresponding with another member on this site who recently had MVD performed by him, and has been thrilled with the result. I have high hopes that I will feel the same after surgery.
I so appreciate all of you who are willing to share your experiences with me. It has helped guide me through this TN maze, and is invaluable!
Thank you all!
Christine

I have read excellent things about Dr. Brown. I think he's a great choice for your surgeon. I know it's a scary decision to have an MVD. But if I were a candidate, one who had the classic TN electric shock type pain and a visible compression on the nerve, I would definitely be making that decision. I wish you good luck, and please keep us posted with your outcome. :)

Thanks for the good wishes, and I will be sure to keep you all updated.
