Rash and petechia

Hi all,

Have any of you experienced this? A well ago, I started getting a rash on my chest and arms. It spread to my neck, scalp, legs, and feet. My legs, feet, and toes also have developed petechia (little flat, red spots).

I called my doctor, who didn't have me come in but took me off Neurontin and put me on prednisone. I'm still on carbemazepine, and the prednisone is almost gone. The itching it's returning on my neck, and the petechia isn't fading. And ... my TN is kicking up again.

Have any of you experienced a rash like this from your meds?

I was on Neurontin for about a year. My neurologist switched me to Lyrica, but I had a bad reaction, so I started back on the Neurontin on October 11. The rash started about two or three weeks later. I've been on carbemazepine for a few months.

I'm not sure what to do. :(

Thanks,

Beth

I don't think I ever had a rash but I have petechia for about a year that I have noticed. I have been on gabapentin for about 3 years, very low dose in the beginning. Never mentioned it to my dr.

Luckily no skin reactions from TN meds so far. Consult good doc.

Hi Beth, I've had lots of allergies with TN drugs. You'll probably need to see your doctor and be careful of what you take in the mean time. If you're in the middle of an allergic reaction and taking other drugs (or anything really) you can become sensitised to them. My GP usually sticks me on mammoth amounts of the pred to damp it down quickly and only when its stopped, put me on the latest greatest alternative.(that's how I got a hairy chest and deep voice LOL) Usually need to be weaned off the pred as well over a period of time.

Thanks everyone. Smiley, you would have enjoyed seeing my eyes bug out of my head when I read that you got a hairy chest from the meds! It took me a second!

It does seem that the Neurontin caused the rash, which is a bummer because it worked. Now I have to figure out what to do next, but I’m afraid to try another medicine because it’s the second one in a row that had caused a severe reaction. Sigh. Well, I guess it beats the pain.

Hi Beth, I was just told to start on Lyrica. What reactions did it give you?? I have my pain 90% under control and really don't feel good about going to the new drug.
