Rash Advice?

ER or wait until tomorrow? Crazy rash started Friday night on both thighs - now it has spread down legs and all over both arms. Itching like crazy and benedryl cream is not helping. Do I wait until tomorrow to call doc, or go the ER today? Feel kind of stupid going to ER for a rash. Taking 200mg/3x daily Tegretol. Thoughts?

stop that med now!! I did the same thing on tegretol and when I looked it up on line saw that the reaction can be fatal. I used cortizone cream but my doc wanted to see the rash as well. Spreading is the part that means you may need to call your doc. I called his 24 hour line. Hopefully you can do that.

Thanks Deborah - called my GP's hotline - they called back and said to go to ER. So off I go... read some of that skin rash information too, so now I'm really worried. Thanks for the advice!

Agree, get to the Dr’s or ER as quick as you can. It may not serious, but some people DO have a very serious rash with Tegretol that has awful implications. Get that ruled out for peace of mind, please. And come back on and let us know the outcome, thinking of you.

Thanks you guys! Just got back - systemic reaction to Tegretol. Have to stop taking it immeidately. They gave me shot & script for steriods and shot and OTC Benedryl. Have to talk to neuro tomorrow regarding what to do about TN, and take Oxy for TX pain to get through today. Feel like I am back at square one! Grrr. But, I know it could be worse. Maybe I will just be able to sleep through today, with no pain!

Thanks for the feedback, could have been very bad! It must be annoying to be back to square one but as you say it could have been worse!

have it checked ouy pronto. good luck.

Rash is finally starting to go away! How awful! Starting gabapentin today- doc wanted steriods & benedryl in my system for full 24 hours before starting something new and so we could tell if I would have a reaction to this medication as well! Dosing up slowly to 300mg/3x - so we'll see what happens! Took 300 mg this morning. Have pain, but not excruciating right now, but starting to feel a bit dizzy, knowing this is normal. Hopefully, this will be the one that works!! I love reading everyone's experiences on the different medications - its amazing how everyone's body reacts so differently. But it is nice to know I'm not alone out here with this pain, and these crazy meds!! Thanks guys for your continued support!
