So itchy!

Hey guys,

Anyone out there get itchy from Tegretol? I have no rash at all but man am i itchy! And everywhere too. Arms, legs, head, face, chest back. It's making me crazy!

You sure it’s meds and not spring? Just asking. Where I am in the southwest the juniper and elm pollen counts are crazy high.

I wish you cool calm relief.

Sue

I have had that and wondered if it was tegretol. Not severe, just annoying. It's a nasty medicine.

You may not have the rash yet, and you may never get it, but be aware that sun + tegretol may = rash.

With my experience with itching you had better contact your Dr. soon. You are probably allergic.

Hi
It is a good possibility that you have an uncommon reaction to this med . Please contact your doctor for his opinion and options
Hang tough

Or your pharmacist. They are often easier to get hold of and possibly can tell you even more.

Please be cautious, Tegretol caused severe allergic symptoms with me... Anaphylaxis. However rash/itching is on the allergy to the med list (www.rxlist.com) Other websites include this symptom. Maybe just check with pharmacist and doctor. take care

Update on itching. The itching has subsided! May have been an antibiotic that I was taking or a combination of the two. Either way, I’m feeling less itchy! Thanks guys!

Lucky, I would call your doctor about that. I had physical urticaria which felt like I had fleas, it was crazy. Itching like that is not normal and could be your immune system out of whack. I'd call and make sure something is not going on.

Hey Lucky,

yeah, I had this problem...a seemingly endless itch that ended up leaving me literally tearing my skin apart & as you say, it was everywhere...it was a nightmare. Please be careful & go to your doctor, see about either getting an anti-histamine or maybe changing the Tegretol for a different drug as with al of my scratching. I ended up contracting a bacterial skin infection, because of all the broken skin all over my body. This caused millions of wee watery blisters all over me which, when burst by my scratching then had to heal with scabs & these in turn left some really bad scarring on my arms & legs.

Best to get it checked out by your doctor.

I was itchy from several of the medications….one actually made me feel like I had bugs crawling on me….I put long socks on my hands and arm so that I would not scratch at night…..I also had a rash on my chest from Tegretol and felt like I had drank a bottle of scotch…..no fun

I would also suggest to increase your intake of water….sometimes we feel itchy because we are dehydrated….

Ooops! neither did I :-) check the replies before I posted I mean! Hehe :-)

I was taking an antibiotics for a rash on my face last summer & unluckily for me I was during the extremely rare heatwaves that we get over here because when I went out into the garden on the first day of the good weather it honestly felt like someone was shinning a lazer torch on my skin...talk about bein pissed, I'm a "sun worshiper" so I was very upset. heehee :-)

That’s ok guys. I appreciate all the replies. You never know, the itch could come back. I’m grateful for all the information I can get! Thanks!

You may try eczema oatmeal bath before bed and an oatmeal lotion . it helps kill the itch

Please see your doctor A.S.A.P. The itching all over my body was the first sign of a rare adverse reaction to Tegretol. Please ask your doc to check your platelet count. It could just be spring and your skin is dry and you need to drink more. It is worth getting checked out immediately.

I had the same Cherri. It was horrible. Was absolutely everywhere, and the week before my skin hurt - just felt like it was paper thin and I had to not go outside as the wind hurt my skin. Then the rash. But I had no pain. Not a good compromise when I looked horrible from top to bottom.

My 11 year old daughter has TN and since starting tag retool she is more itchy. Several days she has itched head to toe and I have to give her benedryl. I thought it was our horrible OK allergy season, but maybe not.
