My mother just had radiofrequency a couple of days ago but she says she feels tiny twitches right before it's time for her pills, is this normal? Has anyone else had radiofrequency and felt this way? What's your experience with radiofrequency?
RF Rhizotomy introduces a controlled lesion on the nerve, to reduce efficiency of transmission for nerve impulses in Type I TN pain "jabs". The process isn't "perfect", in the sense that it is common for patients to experience on-going twinges of pain, sometimes parasthesia (a creepy-crawly sensation accompanied by surface numbness), or other abnormal feeling nerve reactions. Some people aren't helped by Rhizotomy at all. Others get years of almost total relief of pain, and many are spread out in between these conditions.
So yes, I'd say your mother's present symptoms would lie in the normal range. They might also clear up as the nerve settles down after the procedure.

Red...I had RF a little over a week ago and I have felt no relief at all. I am actually more swollen and numb today that I have been through all of this. The numbness also feels like it has increased. When I smile or move my face it hurts...almost feels very bruised. I am starting to be very nervous about possible infection...my surgeon did not put me on any antibiotics after the procedure. I hurt more now than I have in the last three years. I have an appointment with my general practice doctor tomorrow but I am wondering if I should go to the ER tonight. Any input?

kimkow - please read,
as it turned out - i was at my neurologist in a pain clinic today to do a RF.
it turns out he wanted to do the RF Rhizothomy.
i was scared . although my pain , and burning are unbareble... i was afraid.
we agreed to postpond the procedure for now.
BUT - he did tell me i'll probobaly feel my face numb.. even for a year !!! (but it'll pass probobaly !!!)
he said this procedure should "restart" the nerve.. and it take monthes ! and in those monthes the patient will "frightening" feelings.. such as stings... twiches etc. (we should be familiar with that - but still).
he said mant patients go back to the meds for a period of time.. .beacuase of all these feelings.. and it's natural.. . it's sensations of the nerve trying to "restart" itself (sorry for my bad english).
so plaese - i hope it's a bit relaxes you.
as for what the doctor said - one should not feel the relied only after MONTHES !!!.
it's a pity your doctor didn't explain it to you.
by the way -how much does the procedure lasted ? was he went to your eye ? (my doctor told me he will go the V2 V3 nerve but not to the V1 - as it can cause problems in the eyes.. and feelings like sand in the eyes etc.!
please report
Ow. I do not blame you for being scared. I couldn't do that. :( Good luck to you.
