I'd like to know from anyone with TN2 Type @ trigeminal neuralgia.

Do you have pain in the back of your head. I have the pain just under the skin on the surface of my head, to the side of my nose and the burning and pain in my gums, in my mouth.

But I cant understand why I cant lie on the back of my head as that's not mentioned anywhere.

Hi farmeress,

You may want to look up Occipital Neuralgia. It affects the back of the head. I have bilateral ATN and also have symptoms of that. Unfortunately, there seems to be many of us that have symptoms of multiple cranial neuralgias.

You should also read an article labeled Cervicogenic Model. You can find that at the top of the page under the TN Basics Tab.

I had trouble with that for a while- I think mine was related to my neck, as I was diagnosed with a slipped disc C5-C6, and the physio/ exercises I was given for that really helped. I've not had it since!

I often have pain in the back of my head on the bad side, right where they would go in for an MVD. It's not bad -- I can lay down just fine. I just get the occasional jab. I also have a herniated disk at C4 which I'm not willing to have surgery for just yet. Like you, my pain was on the side of my nose, all around my eye, and in a molar. Gamma knife surgery really helped put me in a much better place...I'm sure something else will come up down the road according to what I have read. Can you lay on ice for awhile to calm it down?

That's interesting. Thank you for your responses.

I thought we all had such different symptoms that I'd never find anything out.

I do put ice on the top of my head for burning there. A 1 kilo bag of peas is good while its there.

For my mouth: the pain is strong pins and needles, throbbing with each pulse and burning, and dead feeling.

For that I chew gum all day every day and it drives me crazy but I have no choice.

Its strange because that would be no good for type 1 TN.

Honestly it seems like every single persons symptoms vary so much but I 100% have the burning inside my mouth in my gums etc

O dear, I have burning, dead in my gums.

I drink ice cold water from the fridge and chew gum, all day every day and it drives me nuts but I have too.

Do you feel it pulsing with each pulse, a pins and needles which is painful?

So pleased to have found someone else with it gums.

That's the bit that drives me nuts. But I can cope with it really.
