Pain on the back of your head?

I was just diagnosed with TN 3 weeks ago. I had some hearing loss on my right ear and still do but the doctors cannot find a connection between the TN and the hearing loss because my MRI did not show anything. But yesterday, I started having pain on the back of my head which also happens to be on the right side of my head. The pain was almost as excruciating as a TN attack. I saw my neurologist today and he’s a little puzzled. He’s ordered me to get another MRI but this time a more technologically advanced MRI. I’m just not sure if the pain on the back of my head is a normal TN attack or something else. Let me know if you’ve had this pain. Thank you!

I had something like that, it turned out to be occipital neuralgia. Talk to your neuro about it.

occipital neuralgia

My appointment is on tuesday. It’s called a 3T MRI. I’m not sure if it’s new but apparently it has some advantages that a regular MRI doesn’t. I’ll keep you up to date. Thanks!

Good luck, Vanessa! Like Diana, I was also diagnosed with occipital neuralgia after having pain in the back of my head that came down the side of my head. My ON diagnosis came about a month before the TN diagnosis. Hopefully your 3T MRI (so new and advanced I’ve never heard of it!) goes well and it will provide you and your neurologist with more information to help sort everything out. Hope you have a pain free day and I’ll be thinking of you Tuesday!

My ON came on just a few months ago. I wish you luck with the 3t MRI I never heard of it. Hope all goes well with that test! Feel better.

Hi vanessa. My thoughts are with you. Please post what they find if you feel like sharing.
