I have been having pain in the bone behind my ear on the tn side (left). It is not directly behind the ear but about 1-2 inches further out, just about where the bone drops off. I tend to have a good amount of pain back in that area but the bone part feels new. Any ideas?
I too have the same pain, but it is on the right side as is all my other pain.
I am going to a neurosurgeon on Monday, hopefully to find some relief. Have dealt with this for 4 yrs. Very frustrating. Will let you know if there are any answers.
Hi Shadow,
Have you looked at Occipital Neuralgia???
Hi Shadow,
I'm not sure if the pain I have is located in the same area but it's close. Mine has always been there ever since my TN symptoms started but I don't know if it is related, but it is on the TN side. It starts just below the base of my skull and goes down a few inches. Then it radiates into my shoulder as well as my jaw and ear.
I'm still trying to find out if it is possible for the neck pain to be related to the TN, I have TN2. I will look into the suggestion posted by justjane37 as well.
Thanks, I wish I could offer you something helpful.

I’ve had that off and on from time to time. I mentioned it to my neurologist even and he didn’t seem concerned. I think it is right where the trigeminal nerve comes out at, and that’s why it hurts. I think, it is the tri nerve probably inflamed from the myelin coating being gone and it’s just making itself known. Now more recently in this last year my left side has started doing it. It is usually in the evening when this happens to me and I just massage to make it stop…
That's why I like to ask questions here. The neurologists aren't worried about anything, lol. I did have a strong kick on the knee reflex test the other day and that was the most concern I have gotten out of him. So much is going on with me and I don't know what to bring up to my doctors.
Back on topic, the spot is right about where they drill for the MVD. The pain stuck around a couple of days and is gone now. It hurt most when I was laying on that side watching tv.

I have the same and have been diagnosed by my neurologist as having Occipital Neuralgia. He gives me steroid nerve blocks and this give me some relief from the pain. The first injection was just a numbing agent and when I said that gave me instant relief it confirmed his diagnosis. The cost of the medication is reasonable and I get the injections every few months. They are fairly painless, two shots at the top of the neck and base of skull, and have reduced the amount of pain the o.n gives me. Please ask your neuro about this. All the best for less pain.
Shadow, Yes it is the same exact spot. It seems to come and go in spurts.I remember last summer I couldn't lean back against a chair for a couple of days..It was real tender..I had to be real careful... I haven't had any trouble with it since I've been on Amitriptyline, (6 months). Maybe I won't have anymore trouble with it...One can only hope....
