My mom also reports pain in the back of the head and at the top of the spine, in addition to the facial pain. I assume the pain has changed over the course of several years, but wondered if anyone here has had that secondary pain also? Thanks!
The location of pain that you describe can be an outgrowth of a neuralgia in the greater or lesser occipital nerve, Daughter. Similar processes of neuropathy in different nerves. MVD is generally not used in occipital neuralgia, as the point of emergence of the nerve from the brain stem is actually in the cervical spine. However I've heard from patients in the past who presented with occipital neuralgia believed to be a consequence of surgical error during an MVD. I'm not at all sure exactly how that works...

Yes! I too get pain in the back of my head. I never thought it was connected to my TN. But, its where I can’t lay on the back of my head without getting a bad headache.
