Does anyone have any advice what to eat during the no chewing real food stage? Just wondering. I can tell you that Ensure meal replacement drinks with a straw really helped me. They come in chocolate ,strawberry and vanilla. That’s all i had. For two weeks. They were good too.
When you can eat real food i can advise: Dare Maple Cookies and Yogurt Glace Cappuccino by Selection. Well, Fruit and veggies tomorrow for sure! Oh and Metamusil:)with a straw, cause i like straws now.
Hi Leanne,
This is a great thread to get started, someplace where we can discuss different meal options for different pain cycles. IE pain or no pain
I like making my own fruit smoothies, and yes straws are an essential, I buy disposable straws in bulk these days. I also buy premade breakfast drinks ~ great for busy people on the go in the mornings and also for days where even eating a piece of toast is too hard to manage. Eggs are great, however you like to prepare them, plus most species of fish are nice and soft to eat. If you can purchase a food processor or blender to prepare other foods, mashed potatoe and pureed vegetables - like making your own favourite flavoured baby foods.
I like my beef steaks and lamb chops too - and if I’m having moderate pains, I can still manage to get the flavour factor by processing those in a blender also. Dice them up and make your own mince in the blender…
I’m sure I’ll think of more later - right now, it’s time for a nap…
Oh, mixing the mince with the mashed potato and pureed vegetables is a great meal too. Basically, you aren’t required to chew that kind of food, just swallow small mouthfuls straight down, avoiding any area around my teeth when I have some pain.
I have to say I am one of the lucky that dont have problems in eating, and I have never had to do the blended thing, although when the meds destroyed my appetite in the early days I did find the meal supplement drinks very useful.
Ro I dont know what you were taking, but when my sister was 10 years old she ended up with perforated gastric ulcers ( only discovered after the burst appendix and scepticemia!) anyway I digress, she was taking losec, and with that, all the hair at the nape of her neck and around her forehead fell out, when it grew back it came in in ringlets, it looked ridiculous given the rest of her hair was straight!
I dont know what other drugs do it, but losec is one.
I hope the recipe swapping helps. x x x x
bendy straws are the best.
i lost 75 lbs. since my TN hit, making veggie juices with a juice extractor. Lots of vitamins, lots of good stuff. Believe me, I needed to lose it.
SO glad you made this question! Leanne, would you mind going to "edit post" and change the name to something like "Soft food ideas"? I looked for hours and hours until I found this one about soft food. great ideas! Thanks so much.
