I am just wondering what people have been doing after MVD and how soon they did things. I am 2 weeks post MVD and feeling good, but not sure if I am overdoing it. The doctor wasn't really clear on what I should or shouldn't do, any advice?
My surgeon - who has done MVD for decades - gave me these answers:
Q: When can I play ball with the dogs?
A: When you Feel Up To It
Q: When can I go dancing and have a chocolate martini?
A: When you Feel Up To It
Basically saying my body would let me know --- some of us (humans) ignore when our body tells us so slow down
I know of a handful of people that did TOO much in week 1 and week 2 --- and they regret it
Is it your fear/mind questioning ? Or are there specific things you are doing that you have second thoughts about?
I really had to prioritize --- I had help around here - so I didn't have to feed dogs, do dishes, etc.... I had the time to slowly come out of my cocoon and test my wings!
I think some top things not to do 2 weeks post-MVD would be:
Bungee Jumping---LOL
Yard Work
Extreme cleaning where you bending your neck and head down too much (floors, etc)
Hope this helps!
I totally agree with Kc. Listen to your body as it will certainly tell you when to slow down, and get plenty of rest rest rest. I pretty much sat on a lounge with my head against the back of the lounge for 5 weeks, only going out to take kids to and from school. I did minimal cooking, no housework, no hanging washing on line as tips head back for extended time, no tipping head forward fr at least 3-4 weeks, no heavy lifting for about 4-5 weeks. I’m now about 10 weeks post surgery, getting only occasional headaches, tired after a day at work, but grateful every day for no pain. And as of this Thursday I will be completely finished my meds - HOORAY!
Everyone is different after surgery. Do what you can when you feel you can do it.
