Post MVD symptoms

Hi Everyone,

I would like to get some feedback on a few issues I am experiencing. I would appreciate your help because I am going through many issues. Firstly, I had a semi successful MVD 4/13/13 and I am now experiencing the following symptoms:

  • Inability to concentrate
  • Stress sensitive
  • Hearing problems with left side
  • Balance issues when anxious
  • Face pain around V2
  • Facial twitching (slight)
  • And lastly, headaches

Because of these symptoms I am awaiting a balloon compression for the face pain. I am discouraged and most likely will be going back on disability because I find it very hard to work as a psychotherapist. I am now only working 2 days a week. My wife is upset and I am trying to figure out what is going on as well

My MVD, September 2013, left me with extreme vestibular issues. I am still in rehab and not working. Stress and busy environments make these symptoms much worse. I do not drive, get groceries, go for walks by myself or babysit my grandchildren by myself. I am also back up to the same amount of meds as prior to surgery. During surgery my eighth nerve was stretched and damaged. My docs are hoping this will heal in time.

Edster, sorry to hear of your list of symptoms and the effect it’s having on your work/life. I can understand it’s unsettling/discouraging…

I had MVD a few days before you on April 9th, 2013 for my med resistant left side. I’ve never been TN free, but I was pain free for 4 months (on a med) until the pain started to slowly creep in and the meds started increasing (again). It’s been a “dance” since then trying to find a balance between pain & meds and some level of functionality …
May I ask, are you on any medications?
What do you mean by semi-successful MVD?
Have you discussed these symptoms with your doctor, neuro or surgeon?

I’m not a doctor, just letting you know that I too have had vestibular issues in the past ( hearing/balance) and these can aggravate the existing TN, and exacerbate the stress/ anxiety/ concentration as well as cause headaches.
You could be dealing with 1 or 2 separate issues or even med related side effects.
Very important to get a thorough examination with an ENT for the hearing and balance.
Check any medications with your doctors for potential side effects, ( even if you’ve been taking them awhile as you can develop new side effects at any time)
Neurosurgeon might have some insight as well …
Sending positive thoughts and hope things improve!
(( hugs )) Mimi

Thank you ! I am on a low dose of Tegrital for now
