Pain behind ear lobe

Has anyone found a painful spot, slightly swollen behind their ear on the painful side.A friend was doing a quick exam-hey-none of the specialists have done this ,and there is a very tender spot behind the ear closer to the lobe.

Hi ellen,
I do get pain behind the lobe but it does not always appear so i guess you could say it is random. I havent noticed or checked for swelling but will check nest time.

Thanks Scott
It is just slightly puffier there on palpitation…And even though it does not have an earache right now that spot is tender to the touch.Maybe mastoid infection?
The ear doctor says no but the MRI tech keeps mentioning that something does not look quite right there.

Also-the first time I had one of these random earaches was a few weeks after I was rear ended in 2015-a month before the dental issues turned up.The doctor thought it was an ear ache from swimming. Now that I have had this going on for a couple years I realize that the ear ache was the first sign of things to come. Not sure if this relates to the accident at all.

Could it be an enlarged lymph node?

I don’t think so.One at the front was sore ,right by my chin on the mouth
pain side and that was ultrasounded and was normal.
All the MRI reports say that I might have an infection of my mastoid
bone-which the person who checked me out-thought was right behind the
ear.She suggested rubbing a bit of tea tree oil in it.
The ear specialist poo pooed the idea that it might be a mastoid infection
when I saw him last year.
But that is the only other thing I have to go with.Another appointment with
him soon.

Ellen, This could be unrelated but You could also have an infection in the porous bones behind the ear and the inflammation may encroach onto the nerve causing a compression with subsequent pain.

I want YOU as my doctor. You make it sound so plausible.Thank You.
Now how to treat it-or to even determine whether that is the cause for sure.

I help alot of people. I loved my nursing (45yrs of it) and even now study alternate methods of healing. For an infection in the mastoid bone, its treatment is antibiotics. After that inflammation has gone, then ask for an MRI to see if the TN is compressed. Dont go onto opiod pain relief, its simply a Dr acting as if he knows what he is doing, because opoids do not touch nerve pain, but they are hell of addictive. you need something that prevents the firing off of nerve impulses causing the TN pain - epilim and look up iherb and get yourself some GABA 750mg take 1,2, or 3 a day depending on your pain. These increase the gaba in your brain to prevent the nerves from relaying the pain, they enhance the epilim. Talk it over with your Dr and if he disagrees, ask why? Most Dr’s know nothing about TN, unless its their speciality.

LOL
My doctor would say I am on gabapentin so why take other meds.Also-I will
say that without opiates(codeine) my pain is unbearable.Basically twice a
day-at night none because I am loaded up on the gabapentin and marijuana
oil.He would say that my thyroid is wonky because of medicating myself with
herbs.

No doctor will say it i there is an infection because, get this, and this
from an ear specialist,if there was an infection pus would be running out
my ear.

Antibiotics bring the pain down, but the nature of my pain is to be
different levels for no reason so I cannot say fopr sure.
But I will try the gaba.
Thanks

Gabapentin is one to the worst meds on the market with the most horrific side effects, I wouldn’t touch it. GABA is completely different. Codeine and opiates are addictive and constipate something terrible and are known not to touch nerve pain. And pus out of the ear…NO, the mastoid bone is not attached to the inside of the ear, hence you will not see pus in the ear canal of an infected mastoid bone, just inflammation, red and painful behind the ear. Therefore the Doctor does not remember or know his anatomy and physiology, Id drop him like a hot cake, especially pumping himself up to be a specialist. Antibiotics are not for pain, but secondarily they help it, by removing the infection factor.

An addit to that Ellen, if you think or opiates are holding you together with the pain factor, then obviously your gabapentin is doing nothing. Ask for a trial on epilim 200mg and see if your pain decreases…give it about 5 days to kick in, but its obvious gabapentin is not helping you. Once the Epilim kicks in, you can get off the opiates, then add the GABA and go onto a liquid vitamin called Hi Vita and that could well and truly see you pain free. Also increase your fluid intake. good luck.

I have not found the codeine to be that constipating as long as I keep below 120mg a day,
If I leave the gabapentin out of my mix of baclofen, codeine and it the pain is back very quick.
The pus out of the ear came from a doctor who should know.Major teaching hospital.But-ya-bizarre
I am sick of this whole thing.
I wish a test would show what the problem is.
Thanks for your help. The epillim will need to wait until I have my pain management appointment as my family doctor will not do anything different.
they wanted to put me on percs but the opioids do not do a thing for my pain and made my hands go numb. Not sure what is going on in my body.I do think I have an infection and it is what is causing my TS to be low.
Thanks for all the info .You are a bright light in a murky sea.

Hi Ellen, Its a cruel disease. I have been trying all sorts of things with Mum (94yrs old) Ill let you in on what my latest finding was…her pain began to creep back in, so I put her Hi Vita up from 10mls 3 x daily to 15mls 3 x daily and the pain went. So nutrition has a hell of a lot to do with it, plus I upped her fluid intake. Simple things you would never think would help, but they do. He Hi Vita has heaps of vitamins, minerals, all the amino acids and herbs and its truly a godsend. For fluid I give her electrolytes. Because her intake is so minimal I make sure what I give her servers her and electrolytes to that. If she doesnt need them, the body will pee them out. Her fingernails have improves as with her hair and Im hoping her bones. Dont underestimate the small things that stare us in the face. The only drug she is on, is epilim, the rest Ive been playing around with natural stuff till I found the perfect mix. I wish you good health and the best of luck. Im glad you trust your Doctor. Im a nurse and wouldnt trust any specialist, General practitioner or surgeon as far as I could throw them. Next to none of them know how to cure it, thats why this talk line is open, everyone is in agony. Its a matter of reading everything and taking from it, that which you wish to try. After all it is your life. I wouldnt want a Dr practicing with drugs that toxify my body and make my soul feel like its dying. I wish you well my darling.

Again-thank you.
If you saw anywhere that I trust my doctor,I am surprised.
I do not.If I did I would not be on here either.
He told me that I was trying to be a doctor when I asked to have a certain test. Can’t switch now .I am guessing he will be retiring soon .
Once I finish this slew of vitamins I will go for liquid.
I keep on trying but nothing is fixing it,but at least I was able to go to visit my son for a few days without being a total bitch. So,I am better than last year.
Wishing you and your mom wellness.
