Oxycodone?

The ER gave me Oxycodone to help me manage pain until I get in to the neurologist. It takes the edge off but doesn't really get rid of the pain. But anyway, my questions is, does anyone else have problems sleeping when using Oxy? I am not very familiar with these types of drugs so I don't know what is and isn't normal. I have only been taking one at night after my daughter goes to bed, just to get a bit of relief. And it makes me super drowsy, but once in bed for the night I find myself falling asleep quickly but being sort of startled awake several times a night. Any ideas on why this is happening and if it is normal?

I have been taking oxycodone for a while now. It effects everyone differently, but for me it makes me drowsy but kind of wired like I could write a 20 page paper, and then after a couple hours I sleep super solid. It can make me easily jumpy so if you are going to sleep right after taking it I can see why you would wake up. I would try taking it and then waiting at least a couple hours or when you really feel it kick in, before going to sleep.

Ask pharmacist!

I had an MVD last week. They kept giving me increasingly higher doses of Oxy-related pain medicine -- Oxycodone, Oxycontin. I didn't sleep for 33 hours after the surgery!!! When I closed my eyes, I would see weird "visions"... faces that morphed into other faces. Really strange, creepy things. As hard as I tried, I couldn't clear my head. I was SO tired, but just simply could not sleep. And, on top of it all, the meds didn't even work enough for me to be comfortable.

I am on hydrocodone now. It's only for mild to moderate pain, and I only get really good relief for about 3 hours. But, I can sleep!

uh- everyone sure is differant uh- I take Oxy quite regular as it seem the only thing that really cuts the pain- i started with hydro then the doses kept increasing until i was taking to much tylonal- from what i have read oxy blood concentrations peak 1.5- 2 hours and have about a 4-8 hour half life. but the blood conentrations increase slower with food- so perhaps that may help you manage your sleep. also be aware of constapation as to me thats the worst side effect of opiods- be sure to drink lots of water and get some stool softneers. i drink alot of smoothies and eat alot of fruit. caffine also effects opposite from food, the speed / effectiveness of opiods. good luck, and please be carfuel as they can be quite intoxicating.
