Does anyone’s medicine affect them differently sometimes? Like today it is not helping with the pain- it is just making me sleepy and dumb feeling. But other days it helps with the pain great without the other side effects.
Anyone else have this happen and if so do you know why and if there is anything I can do about it?
Yes I have the same issue. I have found the quality and number of hours of sleep effect I a react to my meds. Also if I am taking the meds regularly. If I had a bad day where I ended up taking "extra" meds for break through pain, then often the next "regular" med day will find me with vertigo and dumb feeling. Hope this helps.
Hi Nicole, I'm not sure what meds you are on, I use Gabapentin and find that if I take it with food the sleepiness is pretty much non existent. Also staying active helps, if all else fails I will have a catnap.
It can take several weeks for your body to adjust so if it is early days stick with it, Generally the side effects decrease with time. Yes it is not uncommon to have breakthrough pain on some days, I keep a diary and score each day. In that way I can show over time if I have an improvement from using the med,
I have never used it but apparently Valproic acid is very quick acting and so might be useful as an episodic treatment, but i'm not sure if it is safe to mix with other meds so best consult your neuro on that.
There are a lot of medication options particularly if you consider combinations, individual reactions can vary widely so you may have to experiment somewhat to find the best for you. Again consult your neuro first.
Yes, I am the same way. Some days I can barely stay awake, think, or function from the meds. Then other days I’m somewhat better. Yesterday I had horrible pain and today none??? Everyday is a guessing game for me! Good luck!
