Outdoor facewear to mitigate the triggers?

Hello Again

So, I live in one of the most beautiful places in the Northeast, the Adirondack Mtns. Love all seasons and have a real desire to get outside for hiking, snowshoeing, xcountry skiing, etc. Also have a very active dog so longer hikes are preferrable. Since cold into warm can be a definite trigger, I have tried to find ways of keeping my face (especially around my mouth) warm while outside. If I do a tight wrap with some breathable face gaitor and then a scarf, it seems to work but I end up sweating around my face profusely.....

Anyone have any suggestions, ideas or ways that have helped them mitigate the cold? I know I am sounding a bit depressing here but I have to say that I don't want to move to a warmer climate or have to cut my exercise short due to this pain.

Thanks

Try adding topical lidocaine cream or patches when you go out. Prescription from doctor

I crochet so I made myself a couple cowls for different weather. I made them a bit open so I can breathe and not get all sweaty, but not too much so I don't get the draft. I know I must look nutty at the bus stop with the kids in the morning. I have my hood on, my cowl covering my face with just my eyes peaking out! But, darn that cold wind in the morning can be an awful trigger! I'd rather look like an eskimo than hurt!!

Eskimo Great is in girls!! In order to enjoy our lives though the fold weatherWE need a game plan!! I found a great mask at a posting goods store thatcovers my mouth, nose and ears. there is a anot in the front where I put 2 little toe warmer patches inside the scar and it has been the difference for me. I can run outside and my face doesn’t mind!!pain iis inevitable but, I’d we plan ahead with the gear me need it want nearly as bad!!o

Lisa - this sounds awesome. Do you remember the sporting good store?

P.O…yes…it was Dicks sporting goods…sorry about all the typos on the last post…gotta love how meds effect ya:( The mask is actually called a scarf…it covers the lower half of the face including the ears then continues down to cover the neck. There is a small opening at the end of the nose then a vent over the mouth. I use the little disposable toe warmers with sticky backs and just stick them right to the inside of the mask. It works so well!! Like I said it has made it possible for me to continue running in this cold weather!! Hope that helps!!

I just searched on the dicks sporting good site…they must not have them anymore but, then I just searched the web for them and found lots of them elsewhere…including on amazon. The exact name is : SERIUS neofleece combo scarf.

Thank you Lisa!

I actually have this very similar design in a gaitor. The toe warmers are an interesting twist. I will try them!

last ear I skied Utah mountains after a bout with facial shingles and I was not going to let this stop me. I wore a windproof face gaitor and put a handwarmer inside a fleece glove inside the gaiter on my face. It worked . I could ski and had a great time . My face did get painful a few times if I was not careful to have whole cheek and above my ear covered. I am going again Feb 5 this year with a new plan. I will have a pocket built in to the gaitor for the handwarmer to go into. Just be careful they can get hot. The toe warmers are nice too because they have sticky side so you can stick them into neck warmer.

I use a buff made by NorthFace, and a neoprean buff by Nike that football players wear for cold weather. NOTHING gets through. At all.
