I’m recently diagnosed and the pain is destroying me. I also have generalized dystonia and in Sinimet and Klonopin. Have been on Tegretol in past but can’t use due to side effects so doc lives trileptal and said he had a lot of success. It has done nothing for me. Zero relief in the past 6 days. Am I expecting too much? Do I need to wait longer? Also, doc only wants to give me tramadol for pain. I need more that that. What has helped you all. Please help. Can’t take this pain. Thank you.
Trileptal (Oxcarbazepine) normally takes 2 - 4 weeks to make a big difference. It will make little or no difference in the presence of Opiates. and pain may actually become worse. Tramadol on the other hand as an antognist is likely to be very effective once any narcos in your system are gone. In fact Trileptal is being commonly used to get folks OFF of narcotics because it kills the buzz because it speeds up the metabolism of the liver.
They may be able to do something with Ultram ER and a breakthrough med while the Trileptal goes to work… Are you on a generic version? Sometimes the name brand or Oxtellar XR) is more effective. Pharmacys have a bad habit of changing suppliers for generics which is a BAD idea for anticonvulsants

Hello. I also was on tegretol which I couldn’t continue because of side effects. So my doctor tried the nasal block on a Friday but I was in awful pain on the weekend so went to emergency. The doctor at the emergency room gave me trileptal which didn’t work so I went back on the tegretol until the weekend was over then called my regular doctor and he prescribed gabapentin which is working beautifully. Maybe ask for gabapentin and hopefully it will work for you.
Thank you so much for replying. I’m only double the dose now. It took 8 days to kick in but working well now. I get very slight breakthrough with coffee or ice team. But doing great. Will try gaba if trileptal wears off. Which I hear it often does. Glad you are doing great. Thanks again !
Hi LynzettA,So glad you are doing well now! What type do you have? I have type 2 and am wondering whether to try tripetal. All the best!
Hi Eileen - I seem to fluctuate between 1 and 2. Its weird. Some days when it started it would come and go with a vengeance especially after eating. But other days it felt like a constant horrible ache all day. Im doing so much better. I do get breakthrough but it is very managab; How are you doing?
Kind Regards,
Just now saw your post. Good news!! I’m so glad it’s working for you.
