Have MVD surgery scheduled for august 6th 2014. Have been dealing with TN for about 3 years now and this year was extremely bad until I finally found a couple of doctors willing to help. Got on Gabapentin 2400mg,Tramadol 300mg and tizanidine 12mg a day. Was finally feeling better with meds but couldn't stand still having it in the background and popping it's ugly head up from time to time, so I decided to get the surgery done. I saw Dr Kim Burchiel at OHSU in Portland on the 24th of July. He immediately scheduled an mri which I was having trouble getting due to some wires left in my back from a back surgery. His office called me on July 31st to let me know there was definitely a compression and they wanted to schedule the surgery. They had to get insurance authorization and would call me back to schedule. I was called back 2 hrs later and was scheduled for Wednesday of the following week. This was unbelievably fast and I am really grateful to Dr Burchiels office. I am definitely nervous about the surgery but this is what I have been working toward this entire year. I can't wait to have all of this pain behind me. I will try to post post -op experiences later.
Ptrack,
Dr. Burchiel did my surgery in February. They'll take great care of you at OHSU. It's no picnic, but it's not that bad either.
I'll be thinking of you.
Laura
Thank you Laura. How many days were you in the hospital? How are you doing post surgery?
I was in for 3 days. The first 30 hours I was in neuro ICU then I was moved up to a regular room.
Unfortunately, most of my pain is back. I didn't have an MVD as such because I didn't have any compression. I had nerve combing surgery so I knew there was a possibility that the surgery wouldn't take. It was my best shot though so I went for it. It was worth it and I have no regrets.
You're going to do great.
We will be praying for you & the doctors for your surgery. We hope you immediately will have no pain & a fast recovery from the surgery. I have met several patients in my TN support group that have had tremendous success w/ MVD. They come to the meetings to give us encouragement to those of us who have not had MVD yet. We’re sending hugs out to you too!
Thank you Julie. That means so much to me. I’ll try to post after surgery and let everyone know how it went. The big day’s Wednesday.
