MVD and hearing loss

After my MVD almost a year ago I couldn't hear for more than a month out of my left ear. It eventually went away, but a week ago it clogged up and I can't hear out of it anymore.

I went to my general physician who said I have an ear infection, and he gave me antibiotics. I've been on them for a week and nothing has changed, if anything I it's more "clogged" today than ever.

During the MVD the surgeon cut out the back of my sinus behind the ear to access the TN area. He said he patched it up with some muscles/stuff.

Anyone ever have hearing loss almost a year after MVD???

I wrote this long reply and they re-read your question and realize that you said you had surgery almost a year ago and your hearing had been fine after a month post op, so my reply is not as relevant, but I want to leave it for those considering MVD or have had hearing problems directly after surgery. With that being said, it is possible that the plug they put in during surgery has somehow not dissolved completely and is moving around a bit and causing you trouble. I would still contact the surgeon to see if he/she thinks it could be related to the surgery even though it has almost been a year. Below is what I wrote when I assumed you were just a month post op: Hope you get the answers you need and more importantly that your hearing issues resolve!

Yes, hearing loss is a very real complication related to MVD surgery. I was warned about that when I was considering having MVD. Just before my surgery date I had 2 hearing tests, then they did a special mapping to make sure they knew exactly where my hearing nerves ran so they would not disturb my hearing. I was all ready for surgery had every test and lab work done and then less than 12 hours we cancelled the surgery as the surgeon felt in my case that he might do more harm that good based on the special Fiesta MRI results and my anatomy. It was a huge let down, but now 6 months later I think it was a blessing that I didn't undergo surgery... God was stepping in I guess. When they do the MVD they put a piece of wax or silicone behind your ear canal to prevent any leaking of CSF fluid the wax is designed to dissolve over a period of 7-10 days (I think) and was told that my hearing and balance would be affected by that, but it would eventually dissolve. You need to talk with your surgeon and see if he put something there that just hasn't dissolved or if he might have inadvertently clipped a nerve that affects your hearing (like I said previously it's a very real complication that can happen when having MVD)
