Newbie here w/PMH of multiple facial surgeries for melanoma. So far, I am presenting like atypical TN, but have experienced shock-like sensations as well. I was relieved that my head MRI was negative. I have another MRI scheduled to take a closer look at my trigeminal nerve. Just worried about that now. Any feedback would be helpful. Thanks.
Nobody can see the fifth cranial nerve on an MRI it is way TOO small they can only see if something is pressing on the area to cause TN so if you don't have any masses everything will come back negative, but that doesn't mean you don't have TN. It's kinda twisted.
A "normal" report only means no mass is seen. My doctors only ever said my MRI was normal. When the neurosurgeon's team looked at the same MRI, I was told there is an artery looped around the trigeminal nerve. I thought my doctor would tell me everything that was on that MRI. I didn't think to ask more questions when he told me the report was "normal"! Ask lots of questions!
