Lower Denture with Nerve Injury

My bottom teeth have to be removed and have decided on a lower denture instead of implants due to the injury during my jaw surgery. I don’t want anyone going back in there to cause pain. I have a partial and have glued it and it makes the nerve pain worse. If I can get a well fitting bottom denture would that cause the nerve pain to increase?

Hi Glamarella
I was wondering how things were.
I don’t know.I have tried putting in my lower denture on low pain days and it is a torture.
Will they be leaving any teeth in?
I don’t know the answer.
I am in the same boat.

Not at the bottom. Those are coming out. Why is it torture? is it the glue that holds it in?

No
I do not have glue.
I have pain in my gum so that is what the torture is.
Never heard of gluing dentures in.
Hoping it works for you.

My nerve pain is where my surgeon damaged my inferior alveolar nerve which shoots to my lower lip

Are you talking permanent denture or one that you can take out?. From many people who I’m my group have dentures and partials depending where you already have pain the denture could irritate the area. Many do a removable one so they can take it out when needed.

A removable. One

I have a partial. Its a bad. Fit. But does not cause. Pain

Hello Glamarella,
My problem is similar as I have most of my bottom teeth but had to have several uppers removed. I have trigeminal on the right side and was afraid that even the removal would cause it to flare up. I had a great oral surgeon and he was familiar with TN so I went ahead and had all my uppers removed. They had already taken impressions and had my new denture ready to go so by the time all the teeth were pulled, the new denture was ready to go in. At this time I was only suffering moderate pain but it was concentrated on the right side of my nose and cheek. My new teeth worked well and I was able to smile- I mean really smile- for the first time in ages. But as I have notced with TN, nothing stays forever. The pain moved down into my cheek into my upper gums. My denture actually felt better in my mouth that out, maybe it was buffering those nerves.
Whatever… it was bad for maybe 5 or 6 months and by bad I don’t mean serious. I could still eat most of the time, although sometimes I had to put that gel on my gums that numb them. Maybe I’m just used to the pain. I had a MVD in 2014 but have yet to shake this damn problem. I will say that I’m glad I got the upper denture. The gum pain and cheek pain has dissapated now and my trigeminal has moved on to my right eye.
Talk to your dentist and make certain he knows you’ve got all those crazy nerves in your face. My denture feels fine, although after I first got it, it seemed to not feel tight in my mouth. I asked my dentist and she put a lining on it . Since then I’ve had no trouble with pain , at least in my mouth. The dentures fit tight, I can chew steak again, but I do take them out at night to soak in cleaner, just like my grandparents used to.
Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.
