my neurologist prescribed amatryptiline 50mg for pain, i have been taking only 25mg the whole time(three weeks) because i am usually really affected by medication. he didn't say anything much about it (he never says much at all) i thought it was to help me sleep when i needed it. So i was feeling good last night and didn't take one. i have been going thru withdrawl, never have experienced withdrawal before, thought something terrible was happening to me. got someone to take me to a clinic here, they gave me zofran, she asked if i wanted to finish getting off it or go back on it. i said go off, i feel awful and think i might be hyperventilating, maybe I should take some? I don't know what to do, if anyone has experience with amatryptaline please let me know.
My Neuro prescribed Nortriptyline for this reason. He said it is a newer drug that has less side effects and is better tolerated. I would suggest getting off Amitriptyline and asking for the alternative. Just my opinion. All the best and good luck with it x
I think the fewer drugs we can get by with the better, but it also can be dangerous to go off of some of these drugs too quickly, I found that out the hard way. I think we have to trust what our bodies are telling us, but I think these are some very high powered drugs they are giving us. I think it is also important what the symptoms of withdraw are. If they are making you really sick or are you just uncomfortable without the drug. Only you can answer that.
Oh sweetie that is awful. Withdrawals can be uncortable to just plain deathly sickly feeling. I would call the doctors office who is the prescriber for you. There should be an after hours number of messaging service. Leave a message explaining what is going and you need a call back. It might take awhile but your doctors should be able to help you. Don’t feel guilty either about calling after hours, they know we as patients can call at any time, and this part of their job. Hope you feel better soon and let us know how you are doing.
Oh sweetheart! Im so sad that you are having a rough time. Honey, you can’t just stop like that! I’m not sure if they are tabs or capsules. But you have to ween your self off of most of these meds. Even weening your self off can be very hard & you will still experience the symptoms of withdrawal. You really need to be under the supervision of a Doctor to do this. I know. I usually only give advise if I have had personal experience myself. Take care sweetie. Hugs sally
