Help ! Had MVD and pain seems to be coming back ...what next?

Im new to this site, I have an MVD in Jan of 2012 and it seemed to work !! about 3 weeks later I developed an infection which they had to go back in to the incision and remove the infection, this left me on IV antibiotics at home for 6 weeks. During this time I was weak, vomiting all the time and just hoping things would get better. During the second surgery the doctor said they stretched a nerve that might get better over time. This has left me with numbness on head (which I can deal with). So about 1.5 months ago I got the okay to return to work. I was still feeling weak but was getting more energy back day by day (the antibiotics took a toll on my body). Since the MVD in jan I had break through numbness but not really any pain that I though was TN related. About 3-4 weeks ago I started getting an ach in my ear, numbness in my jaw and a slight throbbing, I ended up going to the ER as I thought maybe I still had a slight infection. He said that my blood work looked normal but put me on oral antibiotic for a week just to be safe. Since then its just gotten worse I now have the sharp pain in my face sometimes in all three branches of the face but mostly in the once above my eye and the jaw line. my face and ear ach and throb all the time. I finally broke down and started back on 1 of the 3 medications I was on before the surgery. I hake 300mg of Gabapentin 3 times a day so far I have notice no relief . I have little sleep as the pain seems to always be there. Brushing my teeth, wind and eating are all the triggers I have before and are back again. I was brushing my teeth yesterday and dropped to my knees back of the sharp pain I got which lasted about 5 mins, then it throbbed all day. I finally called my neurosurgeon on Friday morning to get some guidance or to see if this is till part of the healing or if in fact the MVD has failed me. I was so hopefully going into the surgery as im young and the doctor was confident it would work since I was so young. Now im just frustrated and don’t know what to do. When im not working im so tired from trying to get through a work day in such pain that when I go home I just want to cry and be alone as I feel no one understand what im going through. Im just wondering if anyone else has had the same thing happen and what would be next if the MVD did fail??

Thank You for any help !!!

HI Andrea

I had my MVD surgery April 3rd 2012 and I too got a sinus virus infection and the pain was unreal, but the twitching was slowing down and the pain in my ear was gone and I could breath out of the left side of my nose, the surgeon reassured me that the pain in my head would go away to give it time. I felt great for about 3 weeks and then a little bit of twitching came back the head was in so much pain , now my ear has plugging and pain, along with certain spots in my head have sharp striking pain leaving me numb at times. THen twitching is all day the pain in my hear and head is all day now. My surgeon thinks three things, scar tissue building up, leaking in the pain, or the plastic bone they put in my ear was popped out when I blew my nose after surgery and it is floating around. I am waiting for a MRI and a spinal tap but in mean time I do feel like you so you are not alone my MVD fail terribly. Good luck and keep positive!
