I thought since I joined I would keep a blog on here.
I have suffered with facial pain on my right side for about 5 years now.
My previous dr thought it was stress. My current Dr believes it is TN.
I had a CT head scan today to see whats going on.
I still remember my first attack. I thought I was having a stroke or something.
For the last 5 years I've had these attacks on and off. Usually at least once a month, if not more.
My last one was actually yesterday although it was rather mild and today I feel a bit numb on my right side with some throbbing but better.
The previous one was just before Christmas and the pain was excrutiating. It had never been that bad before. It lasted for almost a week.
I should have my scan results tomorrow or Wed but I can't get into see my Dr until next monday (17th jan), but I ring everyday to see if there are any cancellations
So I guess its a waiting game until I get in to see him.
Welcome to Living with TN. If you are here, it usually means you are suffering with some sort of neuropathic facial pain like the rest of us. I was diagnosed in 2001, so have a lot of experience in this area.
Your CT scan might not give your Dr. any insight. Sometimes, these tests are done to rule out tumors and such. If they don't find any other cause of pain, you might get a diagnosis of TN.
One of the best diagnostic tests they can do is to put you on an anti-seizure medication, usually Tegretol. If you respond well to it, and your pain goes away, you most likely have TN or some other form or neuropathic facial pain.
This is a great support group and we welcome your questions and comments. Please feel free to join in and ask or comment when you would like. I would be glad to help with anything I can.
