Eating

Was wondering what you have done to avoid pain while eating...I had to puree the grilled chicken breast tonight and it has to be room temperature... is this what you do?? Do most people have trouble with food?? I have lost five pounds and this hasn't even been a full week. Can't wait to see the doc tomorrow and get going with treatment!! so much to deal with all of a sudden... thanks for being there...

Lidocaine mouthwash and face cream prescriptions!

one thing that works for me is an ice pack on my cheek to numb it, it is not sure fire, but works most times.

What kind of face cream helps you eat??

Prescription lidocaine cream… Or patches … Stops facial nerve pain…enabled me to live!

mouthwash does same I think…here they call it magic mouthwash… Go to groups tab… Look at topical pain relief group

When my pain was at its worst (having non stop facial spasms) I was having protein/meal replacement drinks for breakfast and lunch, yogurts and soups. I lost a lot of weight (I am only about 53 kg at the best of times!) but I couldn’t eat solid food. I had trouble even using a mouthwash if I couldn’t brush my teeth as the spasms would grip me even trying to spit! I hope you can find some relief.

I drink breakfast and lunch(mostly as sometimes I get a yougut in). For dinner I put everything in the processor (every thing I can stand to look at). For about 30 minutes before eating and while eating I use an ice pack on my cheek/lip area. Chicken is a hard one....I nornally have to add oil to make it easy to swallow.

I'm the same as Gen. Eating and swallowing can be painful. In the UK we have Complan a powdered drink you add milk to which contains protein and all your vitamins and minerals. I've lost 1and a half stone in weight in total and never really had any to lose! When feeling better I eat as much as I can!!!!!!

Hope you find meds to help asap.

I understand what you're going through.

When my attacks get bad I have to drink meal replacement drinks at room temperature through a straw that's wedged between my check and my teeth on the opposite side of my mouth. I use hot or cold packs on my face. Cold numbs it a bit and hot sooths it a bit.

I have been on a lot of medication for about a year now - 600mg of Lyrica + 900mg of Oxcarbazepine + cymbalta - and I had an unsucessful Gamm Knife treatment in the spring. Lately, I have been having increasing pain in my mouth when I brush my teeth, eat, and talk. The pain when eating has become very strong and it is too painful to have anything touch the right side of the roof of my mouth. I see that people puree their food and have meal replacements, but, I"m wondering how long this will go on for? I know that everyone is different but I was curious if anyone suffered pain when eating for a prolonged period of time? I imagine this can become serious if it goes on for a long time. The problem for me is, it really hurts to eat but I'm still hungry!! If I continue to eat through the pain, will I aggravate the nerve and end up with an attack?
