Doctor

Has anyone heard of Dr. Sekula at University of Pittsburgh Presbyterian, PA?

My understanding is he is the premier neurosurgeon in the country.

Anyone familiar with him? He is doing my surgery on Wednesday, April 9th. I have a meningioma (tumor) near the pons area of the brain which is causing the Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia.

I haven't heard of him, Prudence, but I wish you luck.

He is on the doctors tab here… Just his name is listed as a favorite!

Let us know how it goes!

Thank you very much Beth

Thank you KC Dancer...I couldn't find him on the tab but I believe you...I'm probably just too tired now. I will definitely let you know how it goes! (Geez I am soooo nervous!)

I went to Dr. Sekula, thinking I was seeing Dr. Peter Janetta. but he had retired. I went there from Kentucky 4 yr. this July. He did my MVD. At the time he was with Janetta's office. Has since left and went to the other big hospital, can't think of the name this morning. He is good. However I ended up with Anethesia Dolorosa. But I waited way to long to have the MVD. Suffered too many years. He fixed the TN, but my trigem nerve was too far gone and was so damaged by the time he got in there. But I do think he knows his stuff. He does not rush you out of the hospital if you need to stay longer. I healed fast and had a very small incision compared to most. They shaved very little hair. Good Luck, and keep us informed.

Santafered,

How long did you wait before having MVD?

thank you santafered, this is good information for me...comforting as far as dr sekula's ability is...i waited a long time too, and now in a position where i really have no other reasonable choice. i have surgery this wednesday april 9th and of course terrified. i have a meningioma, of some type...docs keep listing as a different type but nonetheless a tumor that needs to be removed. dr sekula is doing the procedure. thank you so very much for responding. take care of yourself

I saw Dr. Sekula in consultation in Pittsburgh at UMPC for consultation of MVD for my geniculate neuralgia. I was very impressed and had done a thorough background check in on him and he is considered one of the best. He worked side-by-side with Dr. Janetta. Although we decided in my case that surgery would not be the best option for me, I would have let him operate in a heart-beat. I also belong to a forum on Facebook and there is a gal who just recently had an MVD done by him for her TN and had nothing but praise to say about him and how the procedure went. She also posted pictures of the incision and he does beautiful work cosmetically also. Hope this helps ease your mind and keep us posted as to how your surgery goes. I know we all will be thinking about you over the next few days.

Well I did it. had the brain tumor removed and waiting to see if the atn/tn goes away. i have numbness, lots of tn but things are still resolving surgery was wednesday april 9th, it is now sunday april 13th. stilll in pittsburgh UPMC. cant type muuch coordination off and visual disturbances/diziness.. bless all of you. i will let you know any progress when i can. dr sekula was my neurosurgeon. these deficits should subside.

Wonderful Prudence We look forward to hearing about your recovery. Please give my best to Dr Sekula and relax and follow Doctor's orders!

Gail, to happy for you. I'm sure he did a great job. Give him my best. He as well did my MVD, but when he was at Allegheney General. It was 4 yrs ago. I do know that UPMC had persured him and he had to go to Erie for 2yr. before he could be in Pitsburg for UPMC. Lots of luck, and I just know you will be fine. Keep us posted.
