Disappointed and confused

I don’t understand what happened, doctor says don’t get too disappointed yet but I was doing ok after my mvd and now up to full meds and morphine the odd time. Honestly what has happened??

((( Linda ))), hard not to be discouraged.
Of course I haven’t had my mvd yet, so am not really in a place to help BUT…
As I understand it many people have felt well initially only to rev up the meds again and then slowly after pain is controlled for awhile decrease the meds and feel well, no TN pain or minimal.
It took the nerve awhile to get damaged, it will take some time to heal…
Others feel TN pain waking up from surgery and then after weeks or months start to feel better…
It’s different for everyone.
My best advice is tell yourself you are healing and really try hard to not be discouraged, if your surgeon isn’t concerned …yet, then trust that. Be gentle with yourself, don’t think it hasn’t worked. You don’t know that yet.
I’m thinking of you, and really hope you will start to see a positive change.

Your doctor should have explained that in most cases it takes a year for all that stuff to heal.

Keep pushing for the support you need while in pain!

Hi Linda,

I totally understand how you feel. I am going thru the samething. I had my MVD 16 months ago, 6 months after surgery attacks began again and in some areas worse than my original area. my tegretol had to be increased along with other meds I take.I have to say I dont regret the surgery and would do it again no questions asked. I was recently scheduled for right side in February got diagnosed in Jan . Because I remain in pain on the left want to resolve this side before I move ahead on right. I know its hard but try to give it more time and if it doesnt feel like its getting better let your doctor know be persistent if you have too, but you need to give it more time for the nerve to heal. depending on what was compressing the nerve vein or artery can make a difference. Mine was a vein, was told it can grow back develope scar tissue which can result in a second surgery. He said this was not uncommon. Each persons recovery time is different. Try as difficult as it is for you not to be discouraged. Remember you are your best advocate. You know what feels right or not. Good luck to you Linda!
