I was diagnosed two weeks ago, following an attack on the right side of my face/head/ear by an ER physician. I was referred to my neurologist and the diagnosis was confirmed by her. Meds are now on board and the symptoms quickly went away. Today feels "iffy" but we are due to have some severe storms tomorrow night and I am always extra sensitive to weather changes, especially for my long-standing migraines. As a matter of fact, I believe the TN attack was started because I had a sudden migraine 3 days earlier that wouldn't go away and then eventually turned into that TN.
Just saying hello to everyone. I have been snooping on the site, learning from all of you. Thank you for all of your postings and information.
I'll bet. For me, the TN could be secondary to suspected MS, though that is not certain at this time. I also have several other autoimmune diseases, and all of them seem to be triggered by changes in barometric pressure and temperatures, etc. One member, in particular, helped me greatly by recommending laying on a heating pad under slipped in my pillowcase during an attack. I found that so soothing and was shocked at how soothing. Small things make the biggest difference in the fight against chronic pain. Thanks so much for this lovely site and your welcoming attitude. I find it quite lovely.
Also try lidocaine patches --- just call your doctor and have them call in for you..... can help you 12 hr. relief better, and can help you keep lower meds.
Welcome to the TN board, but I’m so sorry to hear you have TN. I’m glad to hear you are medications that are helping and that you have a neurologist as a good doctor makes a huge difference. I hope and pray that you will have pain free days.
I really loved your comment "Small things make the biggest difference in the fight against chronic pain." I totally agree and some of the tips you learn from someone or one you might figure out can mean everything in an attack. I found a certain throat lozenge if I am caught off guard goes a long way if I'm say driving! I pinch it between my gums and move it around buying just a little more time until I can get to something stronger.
Thanks you guys:) Abby: I love the throat lozenge idea! I will have to pass that along to a friend who also has TN. kcDancer: I already have Lidocaine patches for another chronic pain issue and don't use them very often. I'm actually a real lightweight when it comes to meds. I tend to need much smaller doses than most people so I find the patches a bit overwhelming, to tell you the truth. I use them only sparingly, and usually only when my back is out and I can't walk. But I thank you for the idea and will keep it in the back of my brain for future reference if needed. Anyway, thanks for making me feel so included here. It is greatly appreciated.
