I’ve just been diagnosed with TN after suffering tremendous pain since July. I’ve been reading a lot about TN and everything I’ve read says that it can be triggered by things such as touching your face or the wind. However my pain is constant (a dull ache ALL day long) with periods of excruciating pain that wil last for hours. My last “attack” lasted for 14 hrs and only went away after the doctor gave me 2 shots. This seems to go against everything I’ve read about TN. Does anyone else suffer with “attacks” that lasts for hours and the constant ache that continues throughout the day? Also, nothing seems to trigger the “attacks”. They just happen.
I went for almost a year with the pain you are describing before my primary dr. prescribed me Gabapentin to see if it would help with my (what she put in my notes as "brain pain") near constant pain. It helped rather quickly, within a week. The pain did not go away completely but I probably was on too low a dose. I walked around for that year with my hand on my face (somehow that helped a little). I do not get the stabbing pain in my face but behind my ear, nasty one sided headaches on the TN side. From being on this group I believe I have TN2. What you likely will find is there are no two TN sufferers completely alike. People may share many symptoms but there is often some variation. TN is not completely understood, even by many neurologists.
I will add that my constant pain has morphed into an on and off tingling in the background usually on my upper lip, cheek and eye area. It moves around. It's a 4-5 tingling on my meds so I can only imagine what I would be going through without meds
I was told I have Atypical Odontalgia..I have constant pain in my lower left side gums and my canine tooth..I was taking Amitriptyline for about 9 months and the pain went away..I stopped taking it to see if the pain was gone and it was..I was pain free for about 8 months but I got a bad cold and ear ache and my pain came back..So I'm taking the medication again...:(( Are you taking any medication for your pain?
