I hardly ever cry. Maybe once a year. I’ll spare you the details on why. I have ATN but the pain, almost always, affects just the right side. Yesterday my dog died. I cried a lot throughout the day. My face began to hurt. Today it hurts like the dickens, on both sides, even though I have not cried at all.
My question: Can crying instigate pain because of the pressure in the face that happens when crying?
Karen, I don’t know the answer to your question, but I’m so sorry about the loss of your dog. The love that we share with our pets is special, as is the grief that we feel when they die. One day the memories will make you smile, but until then, I wish you strength.

So sorry to hear about your dog
I know I now avoid crying at all costs because my face hurts so dang bad afterwards. I think it has to do with the increased blood flow/pressure from fluids in the sinus cavities. I’ve not researched this though.
First, I’m so sorry about your dog. It’s heartbreaking to lose a pet. Second, yes, crying makes my TN worse. I used to cry out of frustration when my pain was really bad and all it did was make the pain worse. So now I avoid crying as much as possible!
sorry for your loss of your precious dog, I have a dog, so it is really tough - I think that the emotional upset, crying and the whole change in your face will upset your balance in your nerves in your face. I know that if I get upset, it affects my face and travels up and down my nerves. Hopefully once you start to feel less stressful and less emotional, your whole face, nerves, travelling to and from your brain will feel more relaxed. I hope it settles…x
Same for me, crying triggers the pain and makes it worse. In fact any kind of facial movements, for example, laughing or talking causes it. People have told me I am “stone-faced” meaning I have no expression most of the time and it’s because of this. We all find our ways to cope. I am so sorry for your loss, pets are a member of the family and you should be able to mourn without having a flare. I wish you well and a speedy recovery
TN and migraine cause periods of anxiety and panic, crying actually helped with that, my husband was very supportive with me boo hoping. So surgery about your dog, that is rough.
It will be the stress of loosing your beloved pet that will have caused your pain Karen.Stress big stuff like yours plays havoc with pain .Remember your whole body will be holding in so much tension. It will pass.Hugs.
