i have had pain from tn for many years trying so many different meds and surgeries to relieve the pain and still i and waiting to undergo yet another as soon as i get an mri done on nov 12th. i have heard of people getting pets to relieve cronic pain and stress so i now have a new puppy a min-pin mix named daisy (which i have never had a puppy before) and she has made the pain a bit more tolerable (along with my meds of course). she also kinda lets me know when things are going to get bad. i have noticed that she licks snuggles and sniffs the right side of my head (where the majority of my pain is although i also get pain on the left but not as bad) and stays very close to me just prior to a major episode. i know it sounds silly but just out of curiosity has anyone else had simular experiences with their pets.
Congrats on your new puppy! I agree 100 percent pets reduce stress. I got diag 3 months ago my dog 5 yrs old seems scared of my pain but shes also not used to seeing me like this… No matter what I am very grateful for her she reminds me of me I wud be scared too if I saw someone in pain that I couldnt see or help
Does it seem like she knows when an episode is coming? Or is it just coincidence?
It’s not silly, I think pets are very intuitive… My dog Roxy just knows when I’m in pain, she doesn’t act different before, but even when I don’t make a sound or move her instincts are amazing, she’ll try and push her little self right under my neck and cuddle me and lick ( the licking I discourage, blech!) she’s super sweet.
Today I went up to my room and just sat on the floor and had a good cry, a loud no holds barred cry, and she came running up the stairs to comfort me…she’s the sweetest thing, I feel badly that she’s not getting her walks as much, ( it used to be me, now she relies on my hubby or daughter)
Congrats on your puppy, enjoy! They make great listeners too! ; )
Thank you. At 46 I’ve never had a dog before and being a small breed she’s being pad trained but I walk her when I can and she does get me up and moving more.
Speaking of crying ive been doing that the past couple nights makes my head pain worse anyone else?
Absolutely. The pain gets so bad I cry. Crying makes the pain worse which causes pain on the other side to start causing me to cry more. It just goes round and round
I had a dog who would lick my face and it would help. She passed this year but now by cat does it when I have an attack. I also get worse when I cry but also when I laugh hysterically. I guess its the stimulation…
I’m so happy for you. Yes dogs are very intuitive. I have four Chihuahuas & they all know when I am sad or in pain. They are so loyal & when all faith is gone! There they are, with unconditional love. Hey my daughters name is Daisy! She must be beautiful. I love animals more than people. They don’t hurt your feelings. Kindest regards & lots of love Sally
Hi and congratulations on Daisy (what a beautiful name too:)) I'm sure cats and dogs are very intuitive. Dogs are known for being able to tell when a person has a cancer - my mum had colon cancer a while back and Hugo, my parents' dog, avoided sleeping on her side of the bed and he didn't even want to be touched by her, quite strange! I had a breakdown when I was in a lot of pain in April (prior to being diagnosed with ATN and TMJ disorder) and my parents' cat who always like to sit on my lap and is begging for my attention avoided me during the fortnight I stayed with my parents, she didn't come to me once. On other occassions though, when I was "just" sad or not feeling well, the pets would come to me and "comfort" me be being there with me.
Yes Oldrisksa, I think cats are unbelievable too! There was a friend of mine who was sick in bed with a virus. She felt so ill & had to take about ten days off work. Anyway, one morning her cat bought in a bird that it had caught & put it on the foot of her bed!
As if to say ’ here, I bought you some food to make you better!’
Oh my goodness, I am sending you the warmest, most beautiful hug! With lots of healing energy & wellness! I will pray for you tonight! I wish that I could take your pain away! Try to keep smiling. You now have beautiful little Daisy to love you & she already knows her mum needs taking care of! I bet she turns out to be the best little watch dog ever! She needs you! And you need her! Fate has bought you together for this reason! She is your Angel Heart! Hugs to you & cuddles to Daisy. Lots of love Sally
It is a documented fact that some owner/pet relationships become very intuitive. Anyone that says animals do not have a soul has never had a cat or dog. My two were such a boon to me through good times and bad. Enjoy Daisy and a picture please?
I have two dogs that are 7 years old. Brothers that we rescued when they were just weeks old. Linus (who is my picture) is at my feet now as I type this! Charlie Brown (those peanuts gang guys) :o) is loyal to my mother but "likes" me ok in a pinch. Linus was in bed with me ALL the days I cried, screamed, etc while trying to get into see the neuro doc, get meds, etc. I know that he is what I look forwad to seeing and snuggling with when I get home. Pets are ready to LOVE...

Both of my dogs always come to me when I am in pain or sad which is a great help. Having them there and petting them helps take my mind off the pain. I have noticed my older dog sniffs at the right side of my face before/after I have an attack so I believe he can smell something different when it happens
