Amitriptyline Question

Has anyone had a positive experience with 50mg of Amitriptyline and if so how long did it take?

I am currently on 600mg Pregabalin and 40mg Amitriptyline. Just been increasing the Amitriptyline over the past 10 days. GP suggested going to 50mg but if that didn't help there was no point going higher. I am seing no benefit from taking this so far and wondered how long I should give it.

Thanks for any help you can give. Clare.

hi Clare I take Nortrtiptyline which is a similar med to Amitriptyline I started at a low dose and worked my way up to 75mg a day It has helped me when nothing else I tried failed. I tried two anti sez meds to start which had a adverse effect on me so I stopped. The tricylic anti depressant does take some time to work into your body so de give it a few weeks I remember when I was at 50 mg and still having issues but I stuck it out cause this was my last resort and am glad I did and upped it to 75mg ofcoarse with the doctors go ahead so good luck let me know how it goes

Thank you for that. Will stick it out and let you know how it goes.

Hi Clare I take Amitriptyline - usually good for ATN; fallback on to Gabapentin when I get any elongated breakthroughs or lots of Type 1 breakthroughs. Just had a couple of fillings at the dentist so am back on Gaba for a short while. I was generally intolerant of Tegretol and Gabapentin as I work in the knowledge industry and they kill the brain cells too much. My neuro asked me to persevere for at least 6 weeks over Christmas break last year. It keeps everything to what I call a background buzz - its there all the time, but manageable. My neuro talked about low dose use, but I was told there was heaps of room for movement, so not sure where the 50 window has come from.. I find for me its best as a maintainer, but go back on the Gaba to control outbreaks. Hope this helps..
