Alcohol injections

ok so i saw my doctor today and i told him that i had been living on pain meds for the last 3 weeks. he is now sending me to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville for “alcohol injections” into my face. anybody ever heard of this? or had it done? I’m so overwhelmed with everything i just want to cry, but don’t dare to in fear of more pain!

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT!!!

SO YOU FEEL PAIN FREE THANKS GOD!!!

I have heard of them.... dont know much about them. My new pain mgmnt doc does them so I too am looking into them or the Gamma Knife surgery. What type of TN do you have Classic or Atypical?

Please don't cry, It always makes my pain SKYROCKET outta control also. I have found everyone on this site to be very helpful, just do as you have done reach out and people will respond and it may be helpful.

Vanderbilt is a wonderful medical facility so you will be in good hands.

Hang in there

Laurie

hey laurie, thanks for your input. i have classical TN, loop compression on nerve!

The alcohol injections from what i can read go in and kill the nerve. causing a temporary nerve block. Yes temporary because the nerve regenerates and then comes back. injections are known to last 3-4 months tops but rare 6 months. The problem i have is some times it work sometimes not at all. sometimes it causes more pain then good.

for someone with no insurance i just don't know if I can do this, or if its worth taking this chance..

laurie, do you live in Tennessee? how do you know about Vanderbilt

Hi Melissa,

I live in Sacramento Ca. My brother just moved to Tennessee. My family on my fathers side is in Tennessee.

I do NOT have a nerve compression. I have Atyipical TN My diagnosis is Post Herpetic Trigemainl Neuralgia. My pain in nature is Atypical not Classic. I have been suffering from it for 10 years. It seems weird typing that, I have spent so much time in bed that 10 years has just flown by. I have just seen a neurosurgeon about the Gamma Knife and the typical results for my type of TN is only 50% pain reduction. For Classic Tn I was told the succesws rate for pain reduction was 80%.

I just got a new Pain mgmt team and they do nerve blocks so I was wondering if anyone had tried that for pain relief with my type of TN.

I know about Vanderbilt because they are such a pretigious medical facility, other than that I really dont know a lot. I wish I did so I could breif you but I dont.

I wish you luck, keep me informed on your progress I so hope the nerve block works for you. I may try it b4 the Gamma knife if I do you will be the first to know. Let me know if you go for it please?

I WILL KEEP YOU IN MY PRAYERS.

God Bless

laurie
