It's my first time traveling by plane since my ATN started and I'm concerned about cabin pressure and dealing with unexpected flare ups and pain while stuck in the air with 100 people. Does anyone have any experiences or tips to share? any do's and dont's?
Hi Tamzee, I have flown a few times since my ATN started, and really have not noticed a difference. I would suggest you carry some meds on your person, as opposed to putting all in your bags, in case there is a problem with baggage.
Safe and pleasant travels!
Christine
that's good to hear, thanks Christine. I will definitely make sure to have my meds on me.

wear a scarf...any breeze from the aircraft depressurizing can send you inot orbit...Cover ears, and face the second you feel it. definately keep meds on your home clock schedule and perhaps even mention that you are traveling to your general pract or neurologist...TN pain can upset all your fun travels...that is for certain...The best to you...say also check the weather where you are going?
One more thing to add and that is alcohol wipes...you cant have hand sanitizer gels with you...but the wipes do help and if you get the slightest headache breathe it in. An RN on flight told me about t his and it worked...So even if you have eyeglass wipes that will work also....lots of little tricks. dont forget to make a journal type listing of all your meds even if you are taking them as needed and a list of yoru doctors names and phone numbers....its a must next to having your photo id...lol
If have not been affected yet inflight and I do so a few times a year. I hope you find the same:-)
I was every nervous the first time I flew after being diagnosed but it worked out just fine. I keep a scarf up to my face initially until I can determine if there is a breeze blowing on me but so far all the flights I have been on haven’t flared my tn.
Can’t say the same for my migraines which always seem to get triggered when I fly long distance.
Have a good, pain free trip.
Hugs Trish
I had no problem - flying to another state for my MVD!
When taking off and landing drink through a straw! It helps pressure, which prevents an attack. Always keep straw and a sucker n travel bag.
thank you everyone for taking the time to reply, these are great suggestions. I feel so much more comfortable about it now :)
