im flying from england to turkey 4hr flight do you think the pressure in the plane will make any difference to tn
I can’t speak from personal experience Chris but I have heard that the pain can worsen after a flight.
It definetely can. Be it the pressure or stiff position you are stuck in or simply the anxiety caused by wondering if it will give you an attack. I’ve taken long (22 hrs) and short flights and this is what I did.
On flights when I’m alone, I made it a point to inform an attendant of my condition and that I had taken some medication which may cause some drowsiness. Just in case I sleep through meal times, you know, the important stuff LOL.
I wear a medical bracelet with a note that says in my purse you will find a document that describes my condition and the list of medication I am on as well as a letter from my doctor (this was more so that the inspectors wont think i’m smuggling all these pain meds out of the country or into the next).
So in that document I wrote what I had as well as a brief description of what it is and where they could find more information, contact information on both departure and arrival cities, doctors numbers, Medication and what it’s for e.g. “If i’m screaming like a maniac, i’m most likely in pain and would need 2 tabs of percocet and a valium. If my husband who may be flying with me looks like he’ll panic, give him one too.” stuff like that.
Take your preventative meds an hour before take off so it’s at it’s peak and I set a small alarm to remind me at regular intervals to not forget the next pill. Say I’m on 4 times a day, i’ll even set it up for an equal spacing of 6 hours even if it wakes me from sleep so i can take it, then I go right back to sleep. My reasoning is I’d rather be awake without pain than to wake up in horrible pain cause i missed a dose.
Aside from all things, think about the fun stuff you will be doing if you’re going on holiday.
Have a safe flight!
thanks ill take note everything thats been said to me
Chris, I have had problems flying as well, but only on longer flights when the altitude is higher, shorter lower flights are fine. I am fine on take off and at cruising hight, but if it is a high flight, the second we start to decend then it hits me, and my face and ears begin screaming.
In my experience ( because take off doesnt bother me) what I do is take my meds as normal, but will take a fast release tegretol about 30 mins before I know I will need it so that it is working for me come the time of descent, also take mints, or anything suckonable, it helps for non TNers, but it helps us even more! If it is something you are worried about advise the cabin crew in advance, and I would maybe have a chat to your GP before you go, maybe there is something they could give you that could help in addition to your normal meds.
I hope that helps. Love Gracie x x x
what do you call a longer flight longer than gatwick to turkey 4hrs
Sorry Chris, That would probably count as longer yes, the difference I was talking about is altitude from Stornoway to Edinburgh or Glasgow which isnt a problem, but Edinburgh to London seems to go higher, and hurts more on the way down, so I imagine that England to Turkey would deffinatley count. Sorry I wasnt clearer.x x x
Thanks for asking the question. I am flying soon, too but it is a short flight and I will be with my 13 year old daughter. I never even thought there might be a problem. . . nothing xanax can’t help, right? Luckily, my girl is very mature. I am so lucky to have her. Thanks again! And good luck to you!
