I’ve been through a roller coaster with this condition just like everybody else. I had MVD at Johns Hopkins 6/24/13. Before then my head pain would last 30-60 minutes of a dull pain, I had MVD and they said it was successful. I went home but now my pain is a sharp sharp pain and really brigs me to tears, it is hard to function with one and they are lasting anywhere from a short one (5-30 minutes) to a long one (60-all day) I am still on my normal medicine and now one at night. Has anybody experience this type of I guess you’d say behavior afterwards?
I’m so sorry Kelly! I feel your pain. I had my surgery two weeks ago. I wish I had an answer but I don’t…still dealing with pain also. I’m going to see my doctor tomorrow. Hang in there. You’re not alone.
I hope you get feeling better! It’s very disappointing when I was told instant relief but I started having head pain again maybe five days post op! But I have Faith. I was just curious is anybody had advise or was in my shoes! I appriciate your comment!
Kelly, I am praying your symptoms are just some type of reaction to the procedure and after everything settles down inside your brain stem that your symptoms will gradually subside. I was very fortunate to have no pain now going on two months following my mvd surgery on July 12th of this year. Did they confirm the diagnosis previous to the surgery with an mri/mra? There are a lot of great people to lean on in this site so don't try and weather this without all of us to help in anyway possible even if its just a prayer or encouraging word. You will be added to my prayers tonite! Blessings! Jay in North Idaho
They said they did see a vessel pressing on my nerve so they wrapped the nerve, lifted it, and put something between the two. My scar has healed nicely. They said it was a “successful surgery” and since we are all the way down in Alabama we email besides going for checkups. They wrote to simply go to my neurologist there was nothing else they could do.
Aw Kelly, I’m so sorry your pain has changed instead of reduced.
It’s very discouraging to have pain after MVD , I will pray that in the coming days, weeks your pain lessens …it can take up to a year for everything to completely heal after MVD,
After 5 months pain free after MVD, my pain worsened, had to increase my tegretol…might have to add baclofen to the mix again…at least my pain is responding to the med after MVD, ( pre MVD my pain was med resistant)
I hope you are getting some relief from the meds , …sending positive thoughts,
(( hugs )) Mimi
Hang in there. I have had two MVD's, one on each side, the most recent being on August 19th. It must be very discouraging. Hang in there. I am thinking of you
I am so grateful my neurosurgeon told me not to expect instant relief, that the nerve did not get damaged over night and it would not heal overnight. It took me 8 months to get good pain relief from my MVD. One thing that did happen is I would get really sharp pain. Turns out this happened, while the nerves in the scalp and muscles that were cut during surgery healed.
