Hi all, I've only recently been diagnosed officially with TN and I've been having some bad attacks which are obviously interfering with my work life, I am too unwell to go in due to pain or the affects of the meds. My boss now wants to have a word with me and it's "becoming an issue". Can I be sacked due to this, and how do I make them understand? I feel like I am being judged and talked about at work.
If you are unable to be at work for whatever reason, then yes in most jurisdictions you can be terminated for cause. Malice doesn't have to be involved at all. You may need to investigate short term disability coverage provided by your employer, while you seek a better medication plan.
Richard is right, check out ST Disability. As being new I hope I can be helpful with your flair-ups. Keep working with your doc concerning your meds and if they are not working after two weeks have another conversation, you should have had relief way before. The best thing is to listen to your body. If I have flair-ups I take a hot bath or use a hot compress. If that doesn't work or I've waited too long for whatever reason, I put Lidocaine on the afflicted part of my face and wait for my Gabapentin to kick in. I hope I've been of some help and wish you the best of luck!!!
I was lucky and had a boss who knew I was trying to do best I could do. I only missed 1 week of work while my body got used to tegretol. It took away the pain, but made me feel like I was on a 6 day drunk. Since I drove a company car I did not go to work that week. I know everyone's is different and all the company's and your supervisors are different. If your boss will not work with you see if your company has some type of short term disability plan. Good luck with your TN
