I have post-herpetic TN. The Lyrica helps a lot but I still have pain/light sensitivity in my eyes and nerve pain (especially from the cold) in my face and teeth. My doctor added Nortripyline and I ended up in the hospital with heart pain. I only took it one week! I have been reading that L-Lysine is important to get rid of the herpes zoster virus, but I don't know if its safe to use with Lyrica. Help!
I forgot to add that I was originally on Gabapentin 100 mg/3X day but it caused too many intestional problems because I have IBS, ulcers and gastritis. THAT took all my pain away.
I don't have post-herpetic TN, but I have A Typical TN. I am solely on Lyrica for an anticonvulsant and it is working wonders for me. My pain doc increased it to 3X per day and have been almost pain free since then. However, I have to add that I take Xanax and doxepin at bedtime and they seem to really help in conjunction with the Lyrica as far as pain management. I try cutting the the Xanax because of its addictive properties and I always end up in more pain when I do. Xanax has GABA inhibitor qualities which seem to be where some of my pain is coming from. Everyone is different and I am hypersensitive to all meds, so for some odd reason, this combo works well for me. Don't know if this will help you or not.
