What do you do when its in your eye?

Had a bad afternoon yesterday. Right when I almost canceled with the Nuero. (as I felt I was getting over this.)

I just kept getting stabs in my left (what felt like) retina. That wasn't any fun at all. Went away after a couple hours and some Gabapentin. What do you do for hard pain like that? Seems nothing helps. I was hesitent to put ice on my eye.

Another question I have is, How do you know if your meds are really working? Mine does not end all my pain but a good portion of it. I still have some break though pretty much hourly, just not hard enough to make me jump. (the eye thing sure did). I don't know if the Gabapentin is working or if I am just getting better.

I so want to know what the Neuro. says. Hard to wait till Mon.

The eye is tough, especially when it affects my vision. I get through same as I do with the rest, deep breaths, meditation and relaxation, seeking a dark environment helps when it's the eye. None of the meds I tried so far that did not have crushing side effects have helped at all so I am stuck just dealing with it for the most part. Opiates when the going gets really tough.

I think maybe put the word occipital in the search box here???

I have major problems with the nerves in my eye due to TN. It is a problematic problem. To deaden the nerve branch to the eye also means you will deaden the tear ducts and it means you will have a totally dry eye and high risk of corneal abrasions which can cost one their sight in the eye. The nerve goes to the cornea not the retina and I am sure that is the pain you were feeling. I am going to ask my doctor about the possibility of lidocaine eye drops. I was reading that lidocaine drops are used in eye surgery to numb the eye. I figure why the heck not. The worst the doctor will say is no.

The V1 branch does go to the cornea of the eye. the worst TN pain I am getting now is to my eye. It feels like I always have dirt in my eye and I am getting really sharp pain to the left corner of my eye.

Hi Redbird2448. When the pain was in my eyes it was to painful to read or look at the computer much. Also, the minute I put reading glasses on it got much worse. This lasted about a month for me and that was when my pain was not in control yet. For me, I've never been able to put anything on my face for relief (like ice, heat, creams, etc.) I would go to great lengths to avoid touching my face. The way the pain jumps around it might be comforting to know the eye pain will go away. Take care.
