Twitching?

If you have it, how do you deal with your hands twitching?

One of my meds..no idea which...either carbamazepine or neurotin....or maybe my depression med citalopram (i think neurotin)...is causing my hands to twitch on occassion. Especially if i do stuff like typing, or holding a pencil. Anything that is ..i dunno, ..small, light, intricate. Don't know how to describe it really. I can do stuff like pick up things that are substantial..like pans or dishes or laundry..whatever without twitching But "small" things like...pencils or one section of newspaper or a spoon, i twitch. I don't drop them, but my hand twitches. And typing! lots of twitching...but when i'm holding my hand above the keys in the ready position only....if i'm actually typing, it's ok.

Anyway....just wondering if anyone else has it..and how you deal with it. I've just been making a special effort to be careful with the small/light things. Although the "holding the spoon" twitching embarrasses me when i eat. I look like a little old lady with the 'palsy. (no offense meant to any here who are indeed little old ladies with said 'palsy)

Occasionally my hand won't do what I want it to. Like typing the right letter, or flipping through papers, sometimes writing. I am on carbamazepine 200xr-2 pills 3 times daily.

ive been on here for about 8 months now and i havn't had the problem myself but i can tell you how many times i see this same post about the twitches in the hands which is quite a bit ..i believe its a side effect from the anti sez meds.

thanks for feedback guys...i guess i just really wanted to know if its a common effect from the meds. lol

@ Shindig...omg! i would be terrified to drive like that. *shivers*

@Donna...hmm, so maybe it's my carbamazepine, which is at a pretty high dose..1200mg per day. Well that pill is a life saver so far, it does help a lot! so i guess i'll just take hand twitches over being face-tazed! lol Thanks for replying...

@Jstagrl...i'm sorry for repeating the same questions over and over. That's a problem with sites that are continually getting new people (like me). Guess i should have just search for old thread about it. Thanks for mentioning that though, it does highlight that i'm not the only one with the problem. (and before any drama starts...i am genuinely sorry for repeating old questions that have been answered a 100 times...AND genuinely glad for your comment. There's no sarcasm on my end and i assume none on yours. *hand shake, butt bump, and high five!*)

Mistee, you are so making me laugh! I bet we ALL ask the same questions over and over and repeat ourselves. Our meds give us dementia, LOL! My daughters are always telling me, "Mom you already TOLD me that!" or "Mom I just told you this YESTERDAY!" And yes I am on 1200mg too and will gladly take twitches over face-tazing! I do have breakthrough pains sometimes, though not as bad as without my meds.

I have been informally diagnosed with Benign Fasciculation syndrome, which is basally uncontrolled twitching. Started to get pretty bad when the facial pain appeared, so I originally though it the twitching could be neurological related ,but all my neuro exams were a OK.

Some meds can cause it, but one potential cause is stress hormones, which makes sense because facial pain isn’t exactly a easy thing to deal with!

So I pretty much just ignore them now. Sometimes my pinkly twitchy uncontrollably so I freak people out with it. :o)

heheh...pinky twitch. That sounds like it could be a hoot..!

Hi,

I'm just now reading the posts, so maybe you've found a way to stop this. I actually have had what I call tremors in my hands since starting the Elavil and baclofen. Have almost dropped my tea cup a few times. Were you able to stop it or find out what it was? Neurologists said he had never heard of it happening with this.

Hey Nora...

i just saw your comment, sorry for late response..

No, i haven't found a way to stop it. I just live with it. I'm more aware of it now, so i am especially careful. Mornings still seem the worse. I have to be careful with the coffee and whatnot. Nowadays i just make sure to use both hands.

I notice you mentioned baclofen. ...hmmm maybe that's it. I take so many freaking pills, i cant tell what is causing what anymore.

Anyway, i have a neurologist appt on the 9/19...so it's one more thing i'm going to ask about. Be my luck, mine won't have heard of it either...lol

Well, hoping all of us can find some steady-handed relief
