Twitch

I’m having involunary leg twitches in my right leg. I guess I should call them more of a leg ‘jerk’. Just one leg though, and its the right one. Please tell me its the medicine (Trileptal 2700 mg) and nothing to worry about.

At the dose you are taking, gait disturbances and tremors are fairly common (somewhat over 10% of trials patients) as side effects of Trilepal. Whether they are something to worry about might be a function of whether you have to climb stairs, drive a car, or otherwise engage in activities where safety is related to your coordination. Be aware also that 2700 mg per day is above the ranges used in trials. See http://www.rxlist.com/trileptal-drug/side-effects-interactions.htm

Regards and best,

Red

Well thats GOOD news Red, actually  Whewwwwwwww… it doesnt effect me in my activities, walking, driving, skiing etc…but its def. noticible when it happens.

Be sure that your doctor is aware of this side effect, even if it is of low significance in your present life. A substantial number of trials patients withdrew from the trial because of Central Nervous System side effects.

Regards, Red

I will, for sure. I go next week. I have to start all over with a new neurologist because mine went on sabbatical. I am trying to get in to the Neurosicence Institute here and you’d think that a prior MVD would qualify you, but it doesn’t. Good grief.

Hi scubahic and Red,

I am having finger twitches or jerks. Most noticeable while using the puter and holding a cig. (That is a sight only other cig smokers can appreciate.)

I know they are from the meds because as soon as I started on my meds I started having them and I never had them before. When I go off the meds we think are causing them they stop. Now I'm back on different ones and having the twitch/jerk. I most assuredly won't be going back to my previous job, way too dangerous. How would you like a mascara wand poked in your eye, OUCH!!

Mainly I would love to find one that works and does not have the bad side effects. I wonder if this is possible. Has anyone actually found medicines that control their TN but have no negative side effects?

Best Wishes,

Phoebe Nix

Hahahahahaha, Phoebe you must be a makeup artist. I don’t think I’d like a mascara wand in my eye. :). My leg jerks are infrequent and don’t bother me. They don’t effect my life in any way except, “good Lord where did that come from?” which is my thought when it happens. All in all, I feel pretty lucky when I read about all the people who can’t work, enjoy life or even function. It’s pretty heartbreaking.

In the 17 yrs I was a make-up artist I never speared them with mascara. I did it to myself once, eek. BTW, is that your pic for the profile? Beautiful.

I'm afraid I'll be turned down for SSDI. But what can I do with twitchy fingers? If speed weren't an issue I could do something on the puter. Accuracy is slowed down somewhat. This finger wanting to type just one more letter is so strange. Does not seem to be a problem painting pictures, odd. Maybe my non profit will take off like crazy and eventually...

I know, I feel guilty too for those who are worse off :(

17 years, WOW !!! You must b pretty dang good it !! Yep, profile IS me, and thank you that was a sweet thing to say. Red posted ways to get thru the SSDI process on this page somewhere. THANK GOD I’m not yet that bad, yet. =(

Phoebe, going off thread here sorry........ have you considered getting Voice Recognition on your PC? It is built in to Windows 7 and I have it now. It cost me about $10 for a microphone. It does take a bit of training though and I am finding that my diction is baddddddddddddd as sometimes it comes out with some pretty weird stuff. I have put it on my mobile too and we played with it last night at a New Years party and were falling about laughing at some of the write ups compared with what we actually said. But it can help with those pesky fingers that make typing difficult!!
