I guess I'm mid-diagnosis. I have one doctor who thinks I have TN and another who doesn't. The problem is that my MRI is consistent with TN (the radiologist sees some impingement on the nerve), but my symptoms are not. So far, I have not had the kind of debilitating pain that most people with TN describe. Today at the dentist, however, I did feel some stabbing pain. I was attempting to have a tooth filled, and the dentist could not get me numb in the right spot, so she had to give me extra novocaine shots. But I started having trouble opening my mouth without pain, and it got worse when I lay on my back, so we gave up. Has anyone else had issues with novocaine? Thanks for your help!
I've always needed TONS of novocaine. Even before my diagnosis. My TN was caused by an injection from a dentist when I had a root canal done and now I'm scared to go back and get the crown put on. I just don't know how they're going to be able to work on me.
I am afraid to go back. Was at the dentist at 8 this morning; it's 5 p.m. my time and I still have pain in my jaw and ear.

Usually novacaine or lidocaine was good enough for me and provided relief of my facial pain during my dental visits. Yesterday, it took 5-6 shots and my face felt like it had a hot iron pressed against it plus the electric shocks were non-stop. I'm really worried about the upper teeth on right side of my face.
