Triggers

Triggers for me are swallowing (even saliva), eating and drinking (even when I try to take meds), brushing teeth can bring on pain, talking, yawning. Interestingly, when I went to the ENT and also st George hospital emergency, they sprayed anaesthetic to the back of my mouth/throat. This stopped the pain instantly and gave me a period of relief! I’m trying to get hold of xyolocaine spray (needs prescription). This is costly but I hope to use it to dull the pain or break a pain cycle - anything is worth it!

Btw strangely I can eat ice cream by slowly melting it in my mouth so that is something!

Good luck and I hope that the pain lessens for you.

Hi,

My main triggers are swallowing, being cold, or the change in weather, but cold weather is worse for me. Drinking or eating something cold or spicy.Stress really induces my pain, either bringing it on or making it much worse, so I'm not sure what comes first my fast heart rate or my pain. Sometimes I feel as if knowing the pain is coming on I get scared and tense up which makes this pain much worse. The main thing that helps is a warm drink, or a warm shower or bath. Sometimes a heating pad on low helps somewhat. Unfortunately the getting rid of my symptoms is usually very hard, and sometimes anything I try is useless.
