Just wondering what everyone triggers are that start their pain off and what tricks help.I know my recent attack strted with some cold, wet windy weather we had here in Australia last week,Of course on a long weekend so had days of pain before being able to get to the Dr.Eating is also another one, have days where I have to drink through a straw and only eat soft food.Graduated this week to soft chewable food but still makes my jaw ache. When bad i can't let anything touch my face, especially the sheet when in bed at night and definently can't lay on that side. The nights are bad for me,but just upped my night carbamazepine to help this.
Salt , mint , hard foods also increase my pain. I am lucky that my face doesn’t hurt while sleeping. & feel sorry for you & others!
My triggers have been
Wind on my cheek
Stress
Eating -- but rarely a trigger
for a long time I had pain at 8:30 pm - no rhyme or reason - 3-4 nights a week
cold. 5 deg celcius
cold wind
The doctor pushing on my sinus without thinking.........@##$$@$%@!#@$
Summer in Queenland here is 30 to 40 deg and my TN almost goes away.
My dentistconvinced me to have a splint made up so I would not grind my teeth at night. I did not think I had a problem untill I woke up Without a TN headache. So grinding teeth as well.
I can Highly reccomend a talored splint IE made for your mouth shape so its comfortable. Even if like me you dont think you need it you may find relief unexpectedly
hello, triggers for me were (now avoided as much as possible) cold temps, breezes, windy, chewing and talking......cannot touch right side of face and am very careful w/ soap and shampoo/shower head. virtually, no meats. yogarts, mashed potato's, nothing cold, must fix head a certain way and sleep in recliner. dental work thru the wall and so on. even if moved to warm climate, air conditioning and fan blowing on face/eye/scalp won't work. virtually homebound. if i tried to vacation, i would not have my comfort zone...recliner, and temp control. i do walk and enjoy summer weather. music and noise can bother. so, i find that talking or if i decide to chew 1 or 2 litttle bites of something after a bravery spell, an attack will come. this is the reality for me. but i have been a long time w/ this. however, maybe these s/s will help you avoid an attack. warmest regards! r (salt and mint have a cooling/burning sensation...anything w/ a cool, burn sensation, even lip balm w/ mint not good for me so keep that in mind too and try and find a good sleep position for your head)
Thankfully touching or wind on my face doesn't trigger for me, especially since a ride on the back of hubby's Harley is a sort of escape!! My main triggers are chewing and temps of food, nothing but soft foods for me and only on opposite side . Sometimes if I talk too much will set it off as well. I find that I always wake up with that ache in that back molar then pain progresses through day to jaw, chin and upper teeth. Hoping for a relatively good day for all of us that are suffering.
Anything involving moving my mouth, even a light sniff or heavy breathing, not good!
My triggers are sugar, salt, spicy food, talking, chewing, anything cold in my mouth. Hot liquids seem to really help. Right now im just drinking a meal replacement through a straw. I can't touch the left side of my face at all.
My triggers are talking, chewing, and touch. The wind is rarely a trigger. I drink breakfast and lunch, then I eat as much as I can for dinner before I turn into Mr. Hyde, then I go lock myself in my room and roll around, screaming for 20 minutes are so. My shocks slow down gradually after that, but my headache gets worse.
Cold food from fridge and cold wind on my face for Classic TN for TN2 tiredness and biting down hard.
My triggers are talking and eating. You would think I would lose weight, but I usually suffer through and eat through the pain ...lol. I do love my food. I do think my pain tolerence as increased by having to deal with this. If I don't talk or eat I have no pain. I've had this for almost 4 years. Started as flareups that lasted a few weeks at a time and over time as become constant and does not go away. Trileptal has made it possible to function the past few months. But I will be having surgery on 6/30 to hopefully get rid of this once and for all. I'm only 44 and can't imagine living with this the rest of my life. I don't know how people do it.
yes!

LAVENDER CREAMS AND BALMS AND TEA'S.....comfort is key.

20mgs of Amitriptyline helps me at the end of the day. Relax's my face and eases me into sleep.
so to everyone with triggers,is this while you are taking medication or without.
I am much better taking carbamezipine. My dr increased my dosage today because I have not stopped getting symptoms.
I am still getting night pain and waking with a very sore face it I lay on that side and in the afternoon when the cold air comes in.
He want s me symptom free for 3 months and then try to reduce.Does this sound right?
My shocks are full blast when I'm on medication. Do not lay on your bad side, if you can help it. I haven't in 8 months. You should be symptom free for about 3 months before reducing meds.
I didn't notice triggers until recently but they are:
high gust winds, esp into the ear canal
talking on phone on the affected side
shower water spraying into ear canal
lightly brushing affected cheek
(most of my pain is deep in the ear)
