Treatments for TMJ

So far all I know about TMJ treatments is there are night splints, braces or surgery. I’ve asked around for different pricing and I’m getting that braces and night splints will be between $3,500-8,000. That’s a huge difference. Has anyone else been diagnosed with TMJ?

My night splint was only $200.00 Australian

wow $200? mine will be $750 canadian.

Figures!!! I'm on disability and when you need somethings you can put in a request from discretionary benefits. And that ussually takes about 3 weeks for them to process your request. I called them last friday and then a game of phone tag started where they would call but not leave a message. Then today they left a message but only saying to call them back. So I called and they explained that they don't cover night appliances, infact they never cover any dental things unless you have a cleft palate or something extreme. I explained I have trigeminal nueralgia and thats extreme pain and the TMJ adds to my pain and getting the appliance should help and I don't think they were listening. So after being frustrated enough that I thought I might swear at them, I hung up. I called my dentist to tell them that we needed to start the process because discretionary benefits turned me down. They had told me that sometimes ppl get approved. They probably just said it to give me some hope for 3 weeks. Anyways, my first appointment is next tuesday afternoon. My Mom offered to help pay for some so that will help allot. I wish now I didn't take the Back on Track drunk driving remedial course cause with all the meds I'm on I could easily be charged with an impaired and its not like I'll ever have enough money for a car, insurance, gas, etc. I should've used that money for this appliance but how was I supposed to know all my meds are seen as so intoxicating? I feel fine on them and no one thinks I seem high or stoned. I was quoted that the whole appliance will be $750.

The at home OTC night guards that you boil to make it fit aren't terrible, they don't last all that long though. In US , no insurance like, me the rate is about $900 for a custom night guard. I have had both & the OTC are more comfortable but end up snapping in half in a couple of weeks.
