Night Guard

I've had 4 night guards to help with my face pain - muscle relaxation and so forth. I don't have TMJ, although I had a genuine quack claim that all my symptoms were attributed to TMJ back in the early stages of a gazillion misdiagnosises. I've worn a night guard since then - 2001 - I think. Anyways, this is my 4 night guard and it has cracks on it. One major crack is right by the extracted tooth where the pain emanates from. It's pinching it and making the nerve pain worse! I just got on Teacher Retirement Disability but it doesn't pay for dental. My husband is trying to research a good dental insurance company. Any suggestions on that?

My main question is, has anybody used the drugstore night guards? I bought a DenTek Dental Guard at Walgreens and was wondering if anyone uses it or something similar? Or did I just waste more money as usual!! If it sucks, I will take it back. I havent opened the box yet. I was going to give it a try tonight unless there are some negative reviews on here. Thanks y'all!

I have tried a ton of store bought night guards and the one I like best is made by plackers called grind no more. I got them at Walgreens. They are sold as disposable and come in a box of 14. They say 3 day disposable but I can use one for weeks. My husband likes these best too. I hope this helps. Sarah

Hi Jamie! The Dentek & Doctor's Night Guard both have mixed reviews on Amazon. Many say that any mass produced, over the counter stock guard is just not comfortable because mouths vary so much from person to person. You should try an online night guard lab such as http://sentinelmouthguards.com. If you have a stone cast of your teeth already you'll receive a discount & if not, a dental impression taking kit will be mailed to you.

Here's a really good article about online night guard labs vs dental office night guards.

Hope this helps!

Hello Jamie, nice to hear from you. Can you please give me a call whenever you have time this evening? I'd like to talk to you before I talk to the butchers(doctors..lol) tomorrow. Call me at 415 452 8556 or gime a number and I will call back. You can reply to ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■

That's good to know. Another one to look out for that's actually getting really good reviews is called GrindreliefN. Though I still feel that a mouth guard custom fit to your teeth is your best option.

My dentist told me to go to Walmart, buy a nightguard - the kind you boil and mold to your teeth. I bought several, none worked. I tried the kind ball players use also. I spit them out while I slept. I just found the Dentek Plackers grind no more disposable. I slept last night without waking up. It stayed in my mouth and was so comfortable. You don't have to size it. They have14 individual packs. Now, I'm afraid they will stop making them. My husband told me to buy all boxes I could find! I found mine at CVS. Oh, my jaw felt rested this morning. ( I still have face pain, though)

Rite aid has them and so does amazon!

It was a total wast of money for me. I can't even wear a flipper to hide the fact that I have 4 missing front teeth. My maxillary is the only place where I have pain - it's where tooth #8 resided until I had an accident from a chicken wrap with a foreign object in it at a chain restaurant in July last year. Trying to save my beautiful, healthy teeth, I was told the only thing was to have a rc. Never had one - didn't know what to expect. The endo, while performing the rc I felt needle-like pins going into my brain and screamed, said he went too far but it would be okay. Lost a total of 5 front teeth- 4 top; 1 bottom- my maxillary had to be cleaned up by os ( his words) so I lost half the bone and need a bone graft, hurts to wear my flipper - it causes facial zaps- can't get implants, can't wear night guard - It wouldn't work properly anyways for me because I don't have any front teeth. Ugh... Good luck, Jamie.
