My insurance benefits have changed. What was 35.00 is now off the the charts! First month is 480.00 and then three months later will be 80.00 per month.
I never really tried neurotin. Who knows, it might be better?
I take 250mg of Lyrica. type 2 tn.
Any guidelines on making the transition? Is there a place for using both meds? Is the generic form of neurontin oK?
I'm looking for experience of others who made this transition. My neurologist is not supportive. Always, come in, pay me a lot of money, and I won't return your calls for three months. That's his pattern, and where I live a neurologist a few and far between. They have gone to work for hospitals. That's another story. So I'm going to work with my internist and educate myself as much as possible.
I too have Type II. My constant pain resembles someone pouring hot oil over the bridge of my nose and over my eyebrows. It sucks. I actually am transitioning from Gabapentin (Neurontin) to Lyrica. I was on 3600 mg. of Gabapentin for two years. After about 1 year, it just stopped working. I know that now since I got off of it completely before starting Lyrica. My pain was no different off of it that it was on it. I am just ramping up Lyrica now.
The generic form works just as well as the brand.
One word of warning. Coming off of Gabapentin is hell. Maybe Lyrica is the same. Take it slow. I tried to do it in 7 days, but I had to slow down due to severe side effects. I had one month of nausea (1 week really bad) and total body itching. I am hoping you won't experience anything like this coming off of Lyrica. The pharmacist said the itching is because the nerve endings are firing in different ways without the drug. I don't want to scare you, but I didn't know what in the heck was going on when the itching began. So if it happens to you, you will know what it is.
I too am bummed about the high cost of Lyrica. Luckily it is only costing me $60/month. Gabapentin was about $15. I am not even sure if Lyrica is going to work. I have been ramping up for 10 days and no relief so far.
Good luck to you! Us Type II's need to stick together a beat this thing!
