I have a scheduled surgery for MVD in 4 weeks for TN.My question is has anyone had both surgeries for ON and TN and what was your results ? And what surgery did you have first.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Surgeon -Dr Mark Mclaughlin - Princeton Brain & Spine. -practiced under Dr Janetta( founder of the MVD)
Hospital -Centra - Freehold NJ
Hi Tracy. I was wondering how your surgery went in Princeton?. I had an unsuccessful 2nd MVD and some neurosurgeons still see a "vessel" on the nerve and suggest a 3rd. One says a Rhyzotomy is suggested. I had Princeton on my radar for a consult. Thanks!
I had a successful surgery.Artery on nerve - Teflon placed.
2 glorious months of no pain.Unfortunately my atypical/ TN 2 / neuropathic face pain or whatever the heck they want to call it is back but no horrible flares.
Dr Mclaughlin is the best.He is brilliant and also has a great bed side manner.
He has PAs working with him and they are just as great. His closet PA is Warren Strauss and he is so incredible.
They both gave me there personal cell numbers and were available day or nite.
I just got back from Jersey as I live in Carolina.Dr Mclaughlin was so very compassionate.Changed my meds and told me not to worry ,after all the nerves and post op is settled we can talk again.
He is so very passionate about his TN patients
I just love to hear that about doctors -- Truly wanting to help people in need.
Hi Tracey I am happy you found a GREAT doctor. I hope and pray it works out for you after all of this. I am also writing to ask you about your doctor and the hospital. Where in Freehold are they.
Best of Luck!!
Hi- I have attached the hospital and Drs info. The beauty is his office is inside the hospital complex.
I can’t say enough about this dr.He really knows his craft ,is well respected in this hospital. As we have all seen so many Drs.this was a perfect fit for me.
Come prepared bring a Fiesta or T3 MRI.
I know this sounds unbelievable but he called me on New Year day to ck up on me and wish me a pain free new year…

Thanks and I hope everything works out for you.
Trying to understand, you had MVD surgery, that helped for two months, but now you are experiencing TN2, what was tour original diagnosis? TN1? Or did they do MVD on a TN2 diagnosis?

What was my diagnosis ??? I have had several. For several years.
My Dr performed MVD with a Trigem diagnosis. I also had terrible burning facial pain/ bee sting and severe pain in the back of my head left side. My MVD was not exploratory I had a clear compression.I will add that compression was misdiagnosed for 3 years. My TN 1 was severe with the symptoms of striking pain that came and went.My TN 2 was daily burning facial pain /teeth pain with no remission for several years. It is Chronic for me.
I don’t think any of us have an exact diagnosis bc our symptoms are all so different. I was lucky to have a surgeon who saw the compression.i was advised before surgery that the facial pain may not be resolved and if it did it could come back as it did.
